What do you do

to keep close to your child/ren while ya'll are apart?

I put notes in their lunches. Not every day, I surprise them. I make sure they have great food. Samantha usually has something of mine or my mom's to sleep with at nap time. Beth often calls me between school and aftercare and we talk about the day. I personally feel she'd do better in school if we could connect more often. I think she is overwhelmed by the negativity in school, especially from the kids. I make sure I kiss them before they get out of the car in morning carpool. Hmm. Oh, they get big hugs when we see each other again.

I've started calling from my cell phone to the house phone and leaving a message to the kids when I have to go out. They can replay the message while I'm away. Sometimes I sing them a song, mostly I just say hello. I'm only out a few days a month but this helps with the transition from me going out the door.

Really, nothing. I like to think that the stability and love and affection they get in abundance when we are together carries them through.

It is very cute in the morning to see my dd make sure to give her brother and hug and kiss and tell him that she loves him before they part for their respective schools.

But, one thing that I am going to be doing in a couple of months to feel more "attached" is to work more days but fewer hours so that we are only apart for about 4 hours/day.

On the mornings I have to leave early for training (only 3 more days thank the Lord) I've been kissing them with lipstick on before I leave. When they wake up they run to the mirror to check for kisses

I call the daycare every day to check in how Roman did with the drop off. Then dh and I talk throughout the day. At 2:45 when the girls get home I call and talk to them on the phone and make sure Chels gets them a snack and helps zoey with homework. Then when dh gets home with Roman they call me and I talk to Romy a little on the phone.

When ds was in public school, I put notes in his lunch box or snapshots. I worked at a pro photographers then... So we had a professional photoshoot done and I got him a clear plastic keychain to put a wallet size of our family all together in it. That way he could see mom and dad all the time and know that we always were thinking about him and loving him
