I want to get a job but I am afraid that I am too "stupid" to even hold down a simple job in a clothing store. I honestly feel stupid. I don't know if I will be able to process things the way I need to (I have some permanent brain damage from head injuries that affect me in a very minor way as far as processing abstract things go, but it is not noticeable. I just know it is there) I honestly believe I am too stupid to work at a fast food place,I kid you not.
I just needed to say this out loud. I am still going to apply for jobs. It is a thought I needed to express.
You just never know until you try right? Try not to worry about something that probably won't even be an issue, or least an unsurmountable issue, for you. I wish you luck. I want to get a job too but I am also afraid tho for different reasons. We all have our fears, the key is not to let them stop us. Happy job hunting!

I doubt highly that you are stupid...certainly not too affected by your processing issues to hold a job. I think you should try - put your fears behind you and do it if you want to do it. I'm scared of working out side the home. I was scared to do resumes/applications online but I did them. I was scared to interview, but I went. I was scared I'd get a job, and I was scared I wouldn't get a job.
I start work full time 1/22.
I'm scared.

You might be pleasantly surprised at how well you do at it. I think moms are the best workers out there. We've seen it all and organized the chaos of our homes and kids.
Maybe try thinking about the things that you do well at home, that you have confidence in, and think about how you'd use those same skills out there. For example, in my job I do the inventory/ordering of product. I judge how much we have, how much we use, and what we're gonna need. Nothing prepared me for this so much as running a household. I'm sure in clothing stores there are similar things. You can do it!

Dittoing what everyone else has said. I seriously doubt it. I'm betting you can do it! It is scary to re-enter the workforce after a period of absence. You can do this!

When I was 18 I worked for Continental Sound, the European office for Christian Artists in Thousand Oaks, CA. This is them . Okay LOL, I am 37 now, so it has been a while.
I used to do data entry, translated the song sheets for the Continental Singers concerts from English to Dutch (side-by-side translations), I translated the study manuals my boss wrote (Leen La Riviere) from Dutch to English. I worked at the Artists Cafe for their Christian Artists Seminar. Also sang on their Disciple teams every weekend for 2 years.
I worked for Shell oil in Rotterdam in the bookkeeping department. In the USA, I have worked for a chiropractor and did 5 years of fostercare. My last "real" job was in 2000 when I waitressed.
Phew.
Well..scared or not, I am actively looking for work. Thanks for the encouragement everyone!!!
