Do you have disablility insurance?

I work per-diem so I do not get any types of benefits. I got hurt at work 2 weeks ago and missed a day of work. At the hospital you have to use 3 of your own days before w/c kicks in and being that I'm perdiem I get a low percentage of my regular average pay. I started to think that if I were to get hurt outside of work I'd really be in a rough spot. Does anyone know how disability ins. works and about how much it costs?
I can't find the cost anywhere on the web, I'm sure each case is specific, but I am looking for a general idea. I sent away for info from AFLAC but I'm wondering if I should go with something local like State farm?

When my dh Bill was alive we always had disability insurance on him. He was an International Union Bricklayer with BAC and if something happened like falling 50 feet off scalfling we would be in for a ride.

I am Lutheran and belong to a Fraternal organization. But while meeting with my financial advisor last month he has indicated that they are opening up to the public some and you do not need to be a Lutheran to have services with them.

Being a Fraternal Organization they have tax exemptions and they use these moneys to promote outreach services within the Lutheran communities and they do wonderful things with Habitat for Humanity. I have been with them for 10 years approx. I have never had a negative expereience. They are very highly rated on the S & P. attaching a link.

I do not have disability insurance, but, push comes to shove, we don't really need my income either.

Yeah that - but I do have state disability through 2 of my 3 jobs so I'd still get a very little.

Oh- and I could work from home so it would have to be pretty serious for me to be fully disabled.

Speaking from experience, if it is available to you and/or your DH, please take advantage of it. I pay $5 a week for mine. My DH is permanently disabled due to an on-the-job injury. He is approved, but will only receive it once his workers' compensation runs out.

My DH just got long term disability this year. Many companies wouldn't touch him . We pay $182.05 per month thru Illinois Mutual. This would cover his entire salary each month should he be disabled longer than 6 months.
