Those of you who put your children at least part time in the care of others while you

work, what do you do when one of your kiddos is sick?

Jonathan (15 months) is current really sick. Luckily I have the kind of job where I set my own schedule and I can cancel appointments as needed, however, I also don't make one dime when I don't work, so taking a day off is very expensive.

What do you do?

Same as you. Stuck home and don't get paid. It is really stressful b/c I only go into office 1 day a week and when I have to miss that day it's a hassle.

Sometimes my MIL can come but she's an hour away.

I have a sitter who comes to our house and brings her daughter with her. I make it clear that I expect them to come - even if my kids are sick, if her daughter is sick, if she is sick,..... We all get sick when one of us is sick so no kid gloves alllowed - just jump in and share the germs. Our sitter recently did have a horrid ear infection and was miserable - we agreed to give her two days off to see doctors, rest, etc. My dh stayed home one day and I stayed home the next. (of course we would allow both she and her daugter to stay home if they were really sick - but colds, flu - come on over).

I call in and tell them my child is sick. They don't mess with me on that because I never take sick days for *myself*

if it's just a cold my grandma still keeps them. Anything where they are miserable I don't work. My job is unique in that a lot of times there is no one to fill in for me and someone *has* to be there to cover the shift leagally. Because of this I worked with a fever this weekend. I sucked it up took advil to keep the temp down and some cold med that made me totally out of it but I was there to take care of my patients. (and get paid. no CS so far for this month and it was supposedly sent over a week ago, so I need every dime)

We have a couple of options, I can take dd with me (depending on how sick she is, and how busy I am), Grandma my xmil will often come and get her (after working night shift as a nurse!). Sometimes I rearrange my appointments and stay home, sometimes dh stays home he dosen't mind laying around the house lol!

Well last year usually dh would stay home with him because he worked second shift-he would go in a bit late and I would zoom home after work to take over. I am not sure what will happen this year because dh switched to days. Better for us overall but not in this situation. We would probally alternate with him taking more than me because he has more sick time than I do. I can't leave him with my mil(our only other watcher) because she is elderly and just gets sick too easy-wouldn't want to do that to her.

I stay home too. Had to take the last two days off because ds had pink eye. Dh and I do whatever we can to rework our schedules so either one of us is the one that stays home. We switch turns, too, that helps a lot.

I just call in. My company gives me 10 paid family leave days per year and if that gets used up I can use my sick leave or take a vactation day. I think this year I've used about 6 hours of family leave and that was for doctor appointments.

My mom is a night shift RN, so she keeps them generally. If she can't, sometimes my dh flexes his schedule to keep them. If he can't, I do, and if I can't my sdd watches them (though we generally don't like for her to do that).

Usually we get it worked out, but it's not ever easy.

We take our immune booster and suck it up, even the nanny, lol. Thankfully I have that option because the four family members near me all work, and even if they didn't, they aren't the helpful type.

I'm stressed about this this week. DD was sick all weekend, got better for 2 days, and then it returned. I'm juggling my schedule to work nights instead of days, but I'm worried about getting everything done that I need to do.
