DD is with dh, Jason, and goes to community college daycare while he's in school. I like the daycare a lot and so does she. Jason's school program is pretty intense right now and he doesn't have a lot of time to spend with her. Some days with him she ends up bouncing from videos to computer games for hours while he studies, which I regret.

I bring them with me (except June, who is in school, and has volleyball tues, wed. and thurs. until 5pm). Shawn takes Louis and Noelle on Fri. and Sat., I take June on Sat-Sun when she's not at her dad's, and Natalie is with me always.
Mine is in school. He takes the bus, and I can get to work on time that way. Sometimes he beats me home by a coupla minutes on the bus, but every other day I beat him home, cos we get out at the same time in the afternoon (3pm).
My dh watches him too, and my mom, for when his school may be closed but mine isn't.

I am extremely lucky in that my Grandma watches my kids. She comes to my house in the am (I have to be at work at *6* am) so I don't have to get the kids up. SHe takes Hunter to school and I pick him up so she doens't have him much. Callan goes to Preschool MWF for 2.5hrs so she takes her and picks her up. She also does most of my laundry, some dishes and picks up the floors if it's messy. I pay her $30/day. It's tight on my budget (single mom) but it's worth it. I'm less stressed and my kids are well cared for.

Michelle your mom rocks! I lucked out here and found a great mom (and friend!) who will watch my son on days when I have work and he doesn't have school. He gets along great with her kids.
Dawn I've btdt and can only say that those times pass and she won't always be watching sponge bob 6 hours a day.
Elsie, I'm just imagining you racing that school bus home.
Louise I lost track just reading yours.
I started this thread because I was curious to see how everyone makes it work. Finding good childcare was so hard when Wyatt was a baby and it continues to be tricky. Barb I hope your families appreciate you!

I teach at a small school and ds attends the preschool. I love that part of my job. We go into together, I can stop by and see him during my breaks and then we leave together. Really nice. Plus I know his teacher really well and she is wonderful.
ds (15 months) goes to a large corporate childcare center. I was really hesitant about it initially, but what I like is that the rooms are all videotaped, the children really do have a good amount of individualized attention, and I'm not even remotely worried about his well-being.
What I don't like is that - for him - he hates the drop off. He so obviously wants to be with me. I do like that they hold him when he is sad. And, I know (cuz I've hung around outside the door) that he stops crying as soon as I'm out of site.
dd (4 years) is in an AWESOME home-based montessori school (it is absolutely a school; it just happens to be in the basement of the teacher). She loves it so much that she told me that she thinks I need to work three days because she wants to go more than two days. I, however, am not ready for her to be away from me three days a week. That will come next year.

P.S. Didn't change my siggy due to any other reason than I only intended it to be up for one day. I still stand by each and every word and am happy to repost whenever requested.
My dd rides the bus to my office, then she gets picked up by some homeschooling friends. She does her homework & plays there until I get done at work. It's nice b/c at 3:30 I get to see her and give her a hug and see how her day is going.

Dh and I work opposite shifts - he works 7-3 and I work 3-11 (or 4-12 or 6pm-2am). DD#1 is in school, so dh races there to pick her up by 3:45. DD#2 goes to a large chain daycare for a couple of hours on the days that I work 3-11. She's there about 2-3:30, maybe a little longer. On 4-12 nights, I meet dh along the way and trade off.
When our girls were younger and we worked in the same facility, we used to do the "kid swap" just inside the door.

Mama to Madeline and Victoria My feedback
We haven't worked out a long-term childcare situation for my new job but I think it will be similar to what we did when I was at my old job.
The older kids were in an after school program, so dh got them after work around 5pm. My toddler went to a friend's house from about 3pm until dh got there to pick her up.
I only work a few days/week so most days I have the toddler all day and I pick up the kids from school.
