She is 19 months old. Sometimes when I ask her if her diaper needs to be changed-she runs away. To get her in a good mood, I chase her and say"I'm gonna get you" which usually puts her in a great mood and facilitates the diaper change. If I just need to get the change done-like we are racing out of the house-or she has woken up with a soaked diaper and wants to nurse...she gets really mad and hits and kicks. I just don't know what to do when she is like this. Sometimes I can distract her by saying"where is your nose?" etc...then she is busy playing Simon Says. She will do the same to my husband if she is mad.
Any suggestions? I don't want her hitting and kicking me. But, I don't know what to do. My husband just puts her on the floor without a diaper until she is happy-and then puts a new one on her.

We have the same thing going on with our 17 month old boy. He struggles so hard to get away from me and off the changing table that I often give in, just to help him down so that he won't hurl himself off and hurt himself. My husband has a bit more physical leverage, and he is able to hold the baby down, gently but firmly, while he changes the diaper, and talks to him, distracts him, and gives him things to hold while he does it. While I hate to physically restrain him, I think it is appropriate at diaper changing time, partly because of the risk of flying off the table, and partly because some diapers just have to be changed NOW and can't wait for him to get more in the mood.

and it is downright FRUSTRATING!
We got through it by hanging fun things to look at over the changing table, singing favorite songs, handing her a "forbidden" object to manipulate (like the diaper cream or something like that), something else would be a snack - which you just have to be mindful of where the hands end up going. ;)
Many times I have diapered a moving target on the run! lol
Ava's now over 3, and still not all that keen on getting changed at times. Can't wait till she's done with dipes.

Ugh. I am with you, Mamas! Veronica has just started what my DH calls her "Ninja Moves" where she flips over and moves quickly while you're trying to diaper her. It's VERY frustrating, especially when you're changing a very ucky BM! Glad to know I'm not alone!

Well, I have tried a few things that have worked.
First, I decided that I wasn't going to get mad. Changes the whole way that I look at the situation.
Then, I look at it as a challenge to not let her fight me.
Finally, I bring it on! I sing songs, I hand her some forbidden object...and if all else fails-I tickle her.(she begs to be tickled-go figure)
We go to a Music Together class-and she really knows those songs. I play them on the keyboard for her, too. So when I sing her one on the changing table-she really gets sucked in (THANK G_D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
