Long Birth Story:
Well... I was supposed to go in on Sat at 6 am to get my water broken- Fri night the hospital calls and asks me to go in at noon instead... so around 11:20 am they call again and tell me I'll have to reschedule until next week!!!!!! I was in TEARS! Kevin took the phone and told them that we WOULD be there and they better have a room ready! lol There was an explosion in babies here on Saturday and they were just about full! We got a room at 3. My next trauma was the **** iv! I didn't want one anyway, but my dr wanted me hooked up to a herapin just in case- It took 5 people blowing 5 of my veins and an hour and a half until they finally called a doctor who put it in! I was in tears- I almost went home-- but finally around 4:30 my doctor went in to break my water- hmmm.... she couldn't do it- nothing came out! So, she put an internal fetal monitor (next thing I didn't want...) on the baby to make sure my water was broken. It was! She didn't know if I had broken it and somehow not noticed or if she did and nothing came out! It was VERY strange... with Skylar I had TONS of water gush out with her we don't even know when it broke! Can you imagine if I had been walking around with my water broken for a week or longer??? So... at 5, of course there was no new contractions and since we didn't know what happened to the whole water situation, we decided to start pitocin (UGH!) Contractions definitely started and I was around 2 cm dialated... By 7:15 they were starting to come every minute and I was 3 cm dialated. The next hour was hell- I had INTENSE back labor and contractions came on top of each other and I could NOT breathe- the birthing ball helped a little but I thought I was going to die. It was definitely not that much with Sky. I really didn't want an epidural but I would have passed out without one. So at 8:30 I was 4 cm dialated and I gave in. Around midnight I was 7 cm dialated and super happy because I had not gotten past 5 cm last time! I was so happy! But around a half hour later, they all came in and gave me oxygen becasue her heart beat was dropping- they turned off the pitocin and it went back up to normal. They started it back up slowly within the next couple hours and I stayed at 7 cm for awhile. Then, sometime around 2 ish I started getting shakey and cold and hot and I had a fever. They started antibiotics and I slept... I felt like I had a terrible flu- I guess it was a reaction to the epidural. When she checked me at 4:45 am my epidural had run out and she was going to refill it, but when she checked me I heard those magic words, "You're about ready to push"!!!! OMG!!!!! I WAS SO HAPPY!!!!!!!!! I could NOT believe that I had gotten so far! I was thrilled!!!!!!!! I was fairly certain that Tabby was posterier because everyone has such a hard time getting heart beat readings and because of the back pain and then because of the crazy back labor. The nurse said she probably turned because she was so low, but as it turned out- and I didn't find this out till after she was born- she was posterier and didn't turn so it was supposed to be harder to push her out in that position. I started pushing at 5:10 am and she was born at 5:50 am. My epidural had run out so I was able to feel as I pushed her out!!! :) Plus, they set up a mirror for me at the end of the bed to watch- which was AWESOME!!!! The second I saw her head start coming out I knew I was going to get through this. They were shocked I pushed a posterier baby out in such a short time - although 45 min didn't seem short to me at the time! lol But I was SOOOOO happy to be able to hold her and nurse her right after she was born!!!!! Kevin cut the cord (he wasn't able to with Skylar) and everything was PERFECT!!!!! I declined the hep vax and they wanted to take her to monitor her fever (which she had because I had) but I insisted that they leave her with me and do any monitoring in my room. I tore in a few places and got a few other "skid marks" but I'll take this pain any day before I have to go through another c section! The recovery time is like night and day! I feel SO GREAT right now and last time I didn't even feel this good 6 weeks after! We came home Monday - I was so happy to get out of that hospital! Many of the nurses mean well, but don't tell me to wake up my baby to get her on a "schedule"- >"thank you but I breastfeed on demand and we're doing fine"
I missed Skylar like CRAZY in the hospital- she did fine the 2 nights I was away and the hardest thing was that she didn't want to give me kisses or anything when I came back home. :( That lasted about one day. I am so impressed with her. I was scared about bringing a new baby home but she has been WONDERFUL!!!! She nurses to sleep but understands that Tabby needs to nurse- so she'll hang over my other side and then fall asleep between me and Kevin. Anyway, everything is a LOT better than I thought it would be and I am SO HAPPY to have a newborn in the house again!!!!! It is just wonderful this time- I want like 10 more!!!!! Thank you to everyone who supported my decision to have a VBAC!!!!! I am so happy!
Take Care all! Sorry for such a long post!
