View Full Version : what age is considered too old for breastfeeding?
Perhaps this question has been asked before and I know in most cases weaning occurs naturally. so is there a age where it's considered too old for a child to be breastfeeding?
I would think it would be different with each child as each child is different. I think whatever feels natural for the mother and child.
ask a different person, get a different answer...I've heard anything from 2 months to never! Catherine Dettwyler says between 2 and 7 is the natural age of weaning it look like, biologically, based on her research, but that's a big span.
I've understood it to be that a child will wean once their immune system is strong enough to take care of itself (3-5yo).
On the other hand, I've suggested mom's with boys tell nosey people she'll wean when she gets wisker burn! :D
child or mother decides they are finished! I agree though - this number is so completely subjective. I thought 2 was old, until I had a baby, and 5 seems like it'sgetting pretty old...but it just depends on the child and on the situation. KWIM?
Love the whisker burn comment, that's TOO funny! rofl!
DD's still going strong at 2.5, and I hope she continues for a while longer.
