Yes I'm well aware it can be done...in fact, did so for my first trimester of last pregnancy. This question is for a friend. I didn't really have an answer for her, perhaps someone here can help me out a bit?

She has a dd about 10months old and just found out she's pg. She wants to continue nursing dd. She had thought she'd be nursing til dd was 18 mo, but at LEAST to 1yr. The question... at what point would the milk change? I know some babies will notice a change in the milk and stop nursing on their own, others however are not affected by the change in taste or supply and continue on.

Does any of this make sense? She just wants to know how long she can continue nursing dd. When and how the milk/supply changes all that stuff.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

I nursed through my entire pregnancy...

It depends on the woman at what point her milk will change. Her child may not even notice- DD didn't. I would tell her not to worry about it...
She really doesn't need to worry about stopping breastfeeding.

i *think* I've answered your questions... is there anything else?

Maybe your friend is concerned that her older child is going to wean before she'd like? Yes, that may happen. It may not, as the other poster said. In my case it *did* happen. I was about 6 months pregnant when my 2-yr-old stopped nursing, and I do think it was because the taste had changed (colostrum) & he decided not to bother.

That's what I was thinking..and told her..that its another one of those "depends on the woman" deals as to when the milk changes.

I don't think my ds had noticed any changes when I was pg and nursing him. I just weaned him because I was feeling so horrible w/that pg, couldn't handle having a nursing toddler on me too.

Anyhow...I'll relay the info to her and continue to encourage her to continue nursing and following her dd's lead on the matter. Thanks for the quick replies ladies
