View Full Version : OUCH!! I am 6 weeks pregnant and nursing ds *Hurts*!!!
I am getting so I dread when he wants to nurse... and during the day I have even tried distracting him so he will not nurse. I don't know if I am ready to wean him, but I want it to stop hurting so much! It almost feels like he is biting me the whole time he is nursing (but he is not). If he gets over zealous latching on I actually yelp!
Unfortunately he has nursed from just one side since he was 8 months old so this side doesn't get a break. I also think he is going thru a growth spurt or something because he suddenly wants to nurse all the time.
Does this pain go away?? How do I handle this?
You have my sympathy! I nursed my toddler through my whole pregnancy, until the end when my milk changed to colostrum and he weaned himself. :( It did hurt a lot in the beginning, plus I had major nausea all the time and it felt so draining to have him nursing all the time. But he was only 10 months so we stuck it out and the good news is, it does get easier. :) It didn't hurt much after the first trimester.
Just encourage him to open his mouth wide to make latch on hurt less, and maybe try nursing him in different positions, if he'll let you, so that the pressure isn't always on the same part of the breast.
Good luck!
:)
DD was still day nursing when I got pregnant and I did not like it all. It hurt plus my morning sickness :(
I ended up weaning her because of it. She had been nursing less and less anyway so it wasn't so traumatic or cold turkey.
Lots of mamas just bear it and I heard it gets better, I just couldn't do it anymore.
Hope things get better for you :)
YES! It gets better! Most mom's report drastic improvement after 2-3 weeks! :D
Try placing a cold compress on your nipps before nursing to dull the pain, or maybe taking a tylenol 30 min. before a nursing session to see if it will help.
If you don't want to wean, try sticking it out. It WILL get better!
Good Luck! :D
My DS was 9 months old when I got pregnant with DS#2. I nursed through out the entire pregnancy.
It hurt in the first trimester. Taking something for the pain before nursing and listening to meditation/relaxation tapes helped me deal with the pain.
It was better in the second trimester and the begining of the third trimester. But the pain came back with a vengance at around 34-37 weeks (I delivered at 38 weeks).
DS#1 went back to nursing like a newborn after his brother came along. But now he's back to one to two times a day, three if he's had a really rotten day.
Good Luck :)
