This is one of my favorite/fast quilts. I actually do it a bit different.. 5 strips instead of 3 and call it a Split Rail Fence but vas is los (did I even spell that right? anyone know what I mean?)

I made a baby quilt out of this pattern... my second quilt ever and it took me about 8 hour to complete....

Time would different depending on the size you wanted to make and if you were going to quilt or tie to finish it. And how many and what ages are the kids that are running underfoot. And if you have a rotery cutter, mat, and ruler. If you have the right tools you could make one in a day? Without kids.

I just completed a king top useing a simmilar process in 4 hours? I cut everything one night.
Sewed all I could before the next cutting the next afternoon, then cut that night.
Then did the final sewing together the next afternoon.

That's with a 2 yo and 4 yo who often want to help.

I did mess up and had to rip the seams on one panel so I need to sew that on then cut the borders (a change in plans as off last night) so the plan for today is to cut the back fabric and borders.
I could be ready to baste by tomorrow but my guess is that I'll attempt basteing on Friday... the whole King Size Quilt on the floor with 2 small kids and dog trying to help because they can .. is not really exciting to me.

IMO Plan a lap quilt and it should go fast.

Well I have all the tools, but I've never made a quilt before. I was thinking about the lap size to start with. I do have two kids ages 2 1/2 and 10 months. So It will probably take me 6 months (LOL) just kidding. :joker: I really have no clue what I'm doing. How do you "tie" a quilt? Is it faster than "quilting"? Also the instructions said to baste the quilt. Does this mean around the edges? See, I told you I'm clueless!

As for basting there are many methods includeing useing safety pins (my fav or curved), plastic tack guns like used to put garmet tags on in a store (like them but it is difficult to find all of them when you are done), spray basting stuff (never used it, don't know how well it works)

What I wrote:
Ok tieing means to take yarn or embrodery thread and tie knots at different intervals on the quilt. I personally prefer the sergons knot as ime it holds better over time. Think Square Knot (right over left and under, left over right and under) but with a second twist (right over left and under and over and under again then left over right and under and over and under again) whew. And I use an upolstrey (sp?) needled to run the floss through the quilt (Big curved needle) and run it through all the spaces (leaving the needle attached) and I do more than one (yes more than one needle but they come in 4 pks I think) set at a time if I need to. Then as I'm ready I do the tieing.

Basting. If I'm tieing then I've really already basted by useing my above techinque. If I'm sewing I put safety pins holding the quilt together. The more I plan/think the quilt is going to be handled/moved prior to completion dictates how much I pin.

Thank you for all the links. If I can't figure it out with all that information then I have no business sewing in the first place. I think I will try the shaggy quilt first and see how it turns out, then attempt this one.
