We have a Compaq screen and it has an integrated microphone on it, it's at the top. Well we never bothered with it since well we didn't need it!

Now all of a sudden each time we turn the speakers on there's this LOUD noise like a screeching noise. Anyway, finally figured out that the screen's microphone is on.

How do we shut it off? We can't leave the sound on anymore or it causes the screeching noise! :( I just want to be able to listen to music again but we need the mic to go off!

I tried poking around the pc but didn't find anything about a mic. UGH! Any help would be sooooooo appreciated!

Go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment -> Volume Control . There should be "microphone" choice. Check the "mute" button :) If you do not see "microphone", go to Options -> Properties, make sure "microphone" is checked, click ok, then do as above.
