I'm starting on 11 May, I believe. There's no point in trying to file a FAFSA this late in the game for the 2008-2009 year, is there? The 2009-2010 year doesn't start until July. So I'd see no aid till Fall semester.

OTOH, I wouldn't feel quite so obliged to take Graph Theory (which would totally screw up my summer schedule). Long story, but one grant I might be able to get would require that I take at least one class pertaining to my math major if I want that grant. And the only class they're offering this summer that I could use is Graph Theory, which is at the same time as Financial Acct and Managerial Acct. :p

Also, as far as I can tell, I can file my FAFSA as a separated/divorced person, even though I'm only through step 1 of the legal process (the court has papers on file). I'll certainly be good and divorced before July, just not by the 17 March FAFSA deadline.

Any experiences with filing in the midst of a divorce?

Hm, no advice on divorce but when I started school way back when I filled out a fafasa in the spring to get aid for summer semester.

I'd go ahead and file now and file as a divorcee. They're remarkably fast at processing, if you have your PIN. And, if you've been accepted/applied at the school they'll get the SAR and move forward with your FA package pretty quickly.

I submitted a FAFSA for summer semester and also for fall. Two different applications.

i'd file two FAFSA's...you won't be the first person to start in summer term vs fall term. most schools have packages available each term, not just each year, so there should be some aid for you.

that said...the school may have a FA deadline for summer term. i can't imagine it's passed unless it was GSU (;) ) but worst case you don't get aid, however you don't know until you try for it yk?

the FAFSA online is fast to fill out once you have that pin number.

I would fill out o8/o9 and o9/1o.
