ok so because of medical reasons i am no longer able to bf ds which is heartbreaking....but now he has issues with storebought formulas...tried 4 now...has issues with iron and maybe lactose....and i have issues with the fillers and nutritional content of formulas....so my q is...has anyone used organic, soy organic, or goats milk type formulas....or other natural options.....i really need help...im unhappy with our current situation and my ds constant constipation issues....and its not like doctors will help me go natural with formuls atuff so yeah.....or any good resources you have come across would be great too....thanks

I would stay away from soy formulas if you can....

Which formulas have you tried? Just so we can rule it out.

we have used nestle good start....then enfamil A+...then enfamil gentlease, now the enfamil low iron....which cleared up the constipation for 6 weeks and now he is back to constipation....next step is trying to get rid of lactose

Have you thought about getting donor milk? I breastfeed, but do not have a full milk supply. My babies have received donor milk from many wonderful mamas.

My girlfriend had a similiar problem with her DS. Then she tried Similac Alimentum (i believe that is what it was called) and he did much better. She also added a little more water to the bottles and fed more often so the calories would be the same. Just a lot more pee cloth dipes!!

I went through a similar struggle. I had very little breastmilk and then when my son was 7 months old my husband died and in the midst of that my son simply refused to nurse. He self weened and I was struggling to find a way to feed him.

I wanted to find breastmilk and went to a breastmilk bank but did not qualify (can't remember why but something about not being ill), wanted to avoid soy (check out the link below) and wanted to avoid sugared formula (not possible on 2001.)

I truly hope you find what you are looking for. Your quest is noble. We really need to make an effort to develop an answer to this need. You and I are not the only ones. I'll be holding you and your DS in my heart with the intention of believing you will find a good solution.

The sweet baby girl in my signature line had trouble on formula, so I suggested to her mother that she use Jarrow Formulas Baby's Jarrow Dophilus. In two of her bottles her mother put 1/4 of a teaspoon of this powder. I can't offer you any advice about formula, outside of what others have said above about staying away from soy formula, but just wanted to suggest that you consider adding in a little acidophilus to whatever formula you decide to go with. Im not sure for organics but have you tried similac alimentum?

My 3rd baby was allergic to my milk (I tried everything!) and the formulas we tried. She ended up on nutramigen and it was covered by insurance. I hope you can figure something out!

I would try to find another Dr- not every Dr is opposed to natural things. Many are quite knowledgeable and helpful, I think its a matter of finding one who shares your perspectives and values.

I don't have any personal advise to offer, but a friend of mine has a daughter with serious constipation issues from formula. She was advised by her Dr to add a teaspoon of olive oil to each bottle (they were using a low iron formula too- they no longer make it, though). That helped her daughter significantly.

I agree with trying another formula - Alimentum or Neutramigen are the best ones (short of Neocate which I think is only by prescription?). Both are very expensive, more so than soy, but worth it IMO. I dearly wish I'd used one of them with my twins instead of soy formula when my supply petered out, but I didn't know any better at the time. With my last baby I used Neutramigen when we needed to supplement for a couple of months and it was fine.
