I wanted to update on those paraphrasing and summarizing assignments I bellyached so much about. I was given 1/25 on each, due to issues with the instructions conflicting in several places.

I resubmitted them (although still unclear....she never DID clarify!) and she gave me 25/25 on each.

Meanwhile, I asked for a due date extension on the first big paper, which was due in the midst of trying to iron out the conflicting instructions on those two assignments.

She never approved or denied that. I was going to go under the assumption that she'd have to accept it late with everything that had happened and I was on track to have it in by the end of the week it was due.

Then all hell broke loose with my personal stuff (which I can't mention here but if you know about it then you'll understand LOL). I ended up deciding to drop that class and one other class that I feel behind on during those really tough two weeks. There was just no way I could stay on top of 4 classes with all that cr*p going on, so I kept up with my favorite two (Biology and Mod. Fiction) and just decided to screw it.

I've gone so far as to decide that I don't give a rat's a** about getting my associate degree now, if I have to complete that extra college comp. class to get it. I took college comp...it fulfilled (and still DOES) the graduation requirement from CSU *and* UC and I'm not taking this bull**** class. You would just not believe what a crock that class is...the entire class is about learning to write a research paper which is not something I need! Sorry to sound bitter but you know, I've taken (and gotten As in) so many classes requiring that level of writing.

I know I won't need that extra class for my BA so screw it. I may be able to transfer Biology and Oral Comm (which I'll have to repeat next term since I've dropped it) back to my CC in CA and finish my AA through them. I have about 8 Fs on that transcript from past stupidity (I got Incompletes for two terms when I was young and never finished) so I've have to petition to get those removed somehow.

I've also decided that I probably won't be able to stay at this CC for another nearly 30 credits. I was going to, to save $$, but the way they handle their online classes is just inadequate. Imagine writing papers for a Lit. class without ever participating in a discussion...without hearing the instructor's viewpoint....without debating and analyzing the lit. in class. That's what I do....week after week after week. Similar issue in Bio, where I'm *forbidden* to ever discuss class or an assignment with another human! I just can't do it anymore. I can, to some extent...but not for another ten classes. I'm going to retake Oral Comm. next term and another writing or lit. class...but that's going to be it for now. If I have to, I'll pay out of state tuition and get my degree through one of CSU's online programs. I'll have 62 units after this term...I guess I don't need a piece of paper with an AA stamped on it! ;)

I highly recommend revisiting the possibility of attending a four-year university. I had been putting that idea off due to higher tuition but have finally seen the light. Community College caters to young kids, most of whom can't get into another school or don't WANT to go to school but are to keep their parents off their backs. That's harsh, but it's often true. As a non trad student, this is frustrating and a huge pain in the arse. Something I learned last week: four year schools cost more, but offer more in grants/scholarships/loans/opportunities than their two year counterparts. In the end you come out further on top. I was shocked to discover that.

Explore your options, ask questions, make no decision lightly, and don't feel like a failure if you need to change things up.

Good luck with whatever path you end up on.
