View Full Version : Sabbat Appliqued Quilt Square Swap

There's a couple things we'll have to decide as a group.

First.. size. 12 1/2 x 12 11/2 inch squares (so they'll be 12x12 when sewn) has been suggested.. would this work for everyone, or would people prefer a different size? They actually don't even have to be square if people would prefer differently.. we did one for the tree square swap that was 11 1/2 x 15 1/2, I think, and it was kind of nice having a rectangular one for a change. Thoughts?

Second.. deadline. I don't want to intrude on holiday sewing! What are the preferred dates? We all tend to run late, but if we at least have a target in mind, it's a good thing or we procrastinators will never finish! Maybe for that reason, sooner rather than later would be good?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's what you're going to do.. pick a Sabbat.. once the size of the fabric is determined, you'll go with that and find your fabric, make it the right size, and then decide what the Sabbat represents to you. Each Sabbat has colors associated with it (which can vary but in general it gives you suggestions), and general themes - I'm more than happy to help you find that information if you'd like. I tend to create paper pieces and lay out what I'm planning on doing to see how it looks before I cut fabric.. then I either use the no-sew iron on stuff or sew the pieces on, depending on the size and what I'm trying to do. Remember to leave a 1/4" border so that we don't cut anything off when we put them together! Create 8 blocks, send them on to me, and I'll return a complete set to you. If you need ideas/suggestions/whatever please just ask! We're good at brainstorming around here :)

I'm operating on little sleep so if clarification is needed please request it. I'll update with size of the blocks and shipping date once we determine that.

Here's some sites with info on the sabbats.. feel free to add more. I'm planning to read through them all to help me get a feel for what I want to do.

Candace

subbing - it won't let me edit to sub :-P Ooh! Gotta figure out which Sabbat I want to do! :) They all have appeal.

I do the paper piecing to figure it out, then use those to cut the fabric and sew/fuse it on from there. :)

I would like to do Samhain and Beltane. :D

Candace

I'd like Yule, and if there aren't enough peeps, then Lughnassadh, too. :)

got it to here, I'm going to PM Rhea and Hastings to see what they want.

a couple questions..

size... 12 1/2 x 12 1/2 or a rectangular 11 1/2 x 15 1/2?

deadline.. what do y'all want? Hastings suggested sooner rather than later since we're procrastinators and will run late anyway - but maybe that'd get us motivated? I'll go with what the majority think.

Between Rhea and Hastings, we should be full.. if they only want one spot each I'll take another, but I'll wait and see what they want. :) If we end up with more interest, I can always add a second group. :) I only need one for myself, but I could use a couple for gifts. :)

I'm leaning towards 12.5 squares, but it doesn't really matter too much to me either way. :)

I'll take Imbolc. I'd also be happy to do Mabon depending on what Rhea wants to do.

Rhea

I'm in. :) I'll take whichever hasn't been claimed.

If there is a second swap I would love to be included!

Rhea

I'm very open about this quilt so could go either way, but I lean towards squares over rectangles.

As for deadlines... how about October 15th? Too soon, too late?

What do you think about sending along a little bit of fabric with each quilt square, a fabric used in the square, for potential use in our creation of the center squares?

lets go with the 12 1/2 x 12 1/2. I like the idea of sending a little fabric too. Anyone else have any thoughts?

what do y'all think about Oct 15th? I'm thinking it might be too close, but I don't know..

Rhea, I gave you Ostara in group one, if that works.

I opened a 2nd group, if any of you would like to move one of your spots to that group to give you variety, let me know. I'm going to PM Amanda to let her know I opened another, and I'm going to post it on the spirituality forum once y'all are in the spots you want to be (which group, etc) and on the market for traffic so that we can fill it up. I can take up to another 2 spots myself, so I'm not worried about filling it.

I would like Litha in the second group :D Thanks for adding a second swap!

ETA I would like Beltane too.

Amy would you like to switch to the second group and have one of each quilt? LMK.

Rhea

I would like to do one in the second quilt also, a different one than I'm doing for the 1st quilt (Ostara) but again, no preferences so I can wait and take what doesn't get asked for.

And, if there's lots of interest, no prob with my not being in the 2nd one. I'd just love to have two! :) I'm already looking at my walls imagining where I can put my quilt. :happy dance:

I was thinking about that too! I'd like to switch as well, so Beltane in one and Samhain in the other please. :)

Ooh, I'd like to get in on #2 as well, so if there are enough, can I switch my Lughnassadh to group 2?

Korwynne
08-25-2008, 07:14 PM
Candace, if it's okay, I moved your Yule to group 2, and I took that one in group 1. :) I changed my mind, so Ostara is open in group 2. :)

hastings
08-25-2008, 07:20 PM
If we need Ostara I can fill it, but if someone else wants to pick up either one or 2 spots I can give up that and my Mabon in group 1 so they could have one spot in each. Clear as mud?

Korwynne
08-25-2008, 07:30 PM
clear as mud :) I'll give it a day or so, then stick you in that spot if that works for you :) I can give up some too if there's more interest.

so.. what's our deadline?

Candace

This is my idea for the Litha square. I don't know if it really represents it enough though. It is sunrise over Stonehenge. I just got on this one way track and couldn't get off. Will this be ok or should I go back to the drawing board? I need opinions from you all as it will be in your quilt too. Thanks!

Korwynne

Amanda, I love it. I was debating doing something with stonehenge as well, but I've not decided.. and I'd love to have that one in my quilt :) I always associate stonehenge with Litha.

how is everyone doing? I've gotten a couple messages about people getting panicky because they've got halloween costumes to do, etc. Would everyone be okay if we pushed back the deadline a little? Thoughts?

Rhea
10-16-2008, 04:22 PM
I'm definitely in the panicky group and would like a new due date. I'm sorry. I'm kicking myself because I should have known better and had them done before Oct. 1st. October is always a made house around here.

ya know, in all honesty, I'd be fine with bumping it to January or something since when people are done with halloween, it'll be christmas that they're working on...

Candace

I wouldn't mind extra time. :)
