My girls are currently eating a combination of Blue Seal Energizer 16 pellets and Nutrena Naturewise Goat Feed. The Nutrena I had been waiting on for a looong time for my feed store to have it and it FINALLY came in today. Well, after being all excited about it, I opened the bag and discovered it's a "sweet feed"; full of molasses and quite sticky. I didn't realize that's what it was; I just read up on the protein percentage and such and it looked like what I wanted from the description on the Nutrena site.
Anyway; what do you feed your does who are still growing and not going to be bred/milked for some time to come?
The girls have access 24/7 to hay, so that's in their diet as well, but I was told to free-feed grain for the first year, so we have another 6 months to go and I want to be sure they're eating grain that's as good as it can be, ya know?.......

Nature's Best's Organic Products (http://www.organicfeeds.com/products.htm)
Our goats love it. We have wethers so we throw in a pinch of ammonium chloride to prevent stones since the feed isn't treated.
The breeder we bought from tried to talk us out of the organic because it wasn't treated but it was just a difference of opinion because she breeds for dairy and has a number of goats and we are able to have a more personal approach and relationship with the goats because we only have a few. We were told to buy Blue Seal meat grower.

Right now I'm feeding the best I can locally. Our goats, due to a medical emergency on the owner's part, came on an "all stock" food so the person feeding could feed everyone the same. They were thin. They're now on a 16P from Southern States. Morgan has done so much research on feed with her horse, I feel comfortable with this for now though. SS feed has been superior to anything else we've found. We were excited about Nutrena, but found it very inconsistent and when we looked it up many horses had coliced/foundered on it. His coat, his weight, his hooves, just everything is visibly better on the SS feed.
We also feed black sunflower seeds as it's a natural dewormer and offer baking soda and loose minerals free choice. They get hay, including alfalfa because they're dairy, but eh, they prefer all the green stuff. They'll probably like the hay better when the barn is finished and we can put up a hay feeder.

Thanks for posting this! I can actually get an organic layer pellet from them that's not too far away. Well, it's far, but I could just make the trip a few times a year. Awesome! Of course, I haven't called to see how much it is yet. LOL

hmmm. Closest place to get this IS a long way away. I see that there's a Southern States in VA that carries it though. Wonder if I can get my SS to get iit for me?

We get it in Maine from Paris Farmers. When we go to Maine we call the feed store and they save it for us because we can't get it locally.
