If you sell your free range eggs, how much do you charge? And really, I need to know what you charge if you sell to a "store". Lauren, help? The lady who we're getting the does from wants to buy our eggs. We'd priced them, roughly, on what the market would bear if we were the direct seller at farmer's market. That was $4, but I don't know if that would have held long term. Initially, it's just a novelty since you just can't find them anywhere. Well, we considered $4.50 if you didn't have a carton to turn in, since those cost us .30 each and well, we rounded up. LOL wishful thinking, aren't we?

It would be SO much nicer to just drop them off to someone vs spending Saturday hanging out at the farmer's market selling.

Yeah, it's because there's usually maybe 4 doz at the farmer's market, and people line up before it's even open for them! crazy eh?

But seriously, eggs are 1.99 dozen in the stores here, for plain ol'factory eggs.

We buy free range brown eggs from a few different places locally. The going rate around here is anywhere from $1 a doz to $1.50. If we can, we obviously go to the buck a dozen place.

I am constantly amazed at the variation in prices!

Garden fresh tomatoes are 2.49 a lb here now! Can you believe that insanity? Last year, they were .99 lb from the farmer or 1.49 from the produce stand.

oh! and darn if corn isn't .50 an ear! Last year you could buy a case and get it for .10 an ear. I mean, I live in the south, in the middle of corn fields! Of course that's feed corn, but still, it seems ironic.

If I could get free range eggs for $1 a dozen (or even $2) I really doubt I would have ever gotten my own chickens.

but this brings me back to my issue. How much to charge to wholesale the eggs? You guys think it's half, like most other items?

Lauren! Quick working and being productive and come waste time on the computer helping me darn it!

 Sorry!

Our local food co-op sells nonorganic, free range for $3.50/doz and organic free range for $4.50/dz. The farmer gets $3 and $4, I think.

I've been selling my nonorganic free range for $2/dozen as a favor to a neighbor who takes them and sells them to folks individually at her workplace. So, I guess I'd call that wholesale. I feel I have to raise my prices though as feed has gone up a lot.

I'm switching everyone to organic feed come Oct/Nov when the babies start laying (they've been organic all the way) and will start charging at least $4/dozen at that point. I have to sit down with Katie, who is taking over the egg business, and do the math. But a 50-lb bag of organic feed is currently $20.80.

I wouldn't do 1/2 for wholesale. I'd let the seller take $1-1.50/dz and charge what would be reasonable under that, if that makes sense. The co-op takes only .50 per doz as a loss leader; they want to support local farmers.

So how about charge her $3, then she can sell them for $4 or 4.50? If there is more demand than supply, I think that counts for something as far as price.

I wouldn't do a 50% cut either, that's retail big store rate, not buying local. I'd do 25-30%. Especially if you're giving her a local exclusive offering ya know.

That's a great price for eggs btw, congrats!!

Regular old store eggs are $2.15
The organic eggs at the grocery store are $3.89

We can get "farm fresh eggs" (lol doesn't really mean organic, free range, ect) for $2.50 at an amish store... BUT its 20 minutes round trip, so with gas that adds another $3, lol

For awhile about 3 years ago we got fresh milk delivered. They also did eggs at $4.50 delivered.... if you bought them on the same trip as other stuff

Around here some people sell eggs, but they live out of town...you pick them up at their house as needed.ykwim ...but again gas is a factor LOL

So I'd think $4 would be good ...
