Just wanted to share a couple of pictures of my two does, Gladys and Ruthie, and the wonderful goat barn/house DH built for them :)
The girls will be old enough to breed in fall of 2009, and then we'll have yummy goat milk (and sweet baby goats to play with :D )
The barn:

They have a sliding door on the back to go in and out of; the open door in the pic is where I can go in, but they can't get out ;)
My two sweet girls :) Gladys is on the left, Ruthie on the right:

They're so cute! I love goat faces, they look so wise.

That looks fantastic!!!
Someone here was selling goats milk cheap...but not for human eating, of course. I was so tempted to get some, though...

I bet you didn't know it but Ruthie wants to come live at my house
Now the questions:
What kind of goats do you have?
And is that metal roofing?
And where did you get it?
I built a small house for our goats but they are dwarf so they don't need much for now. In the fall or maybe spring I will be building them a larger house so I'm looking for ideas.

Well, I'll have to have a talk with Miss Ruthie; she made no indication that she planned on moving out ;) You're welcome to come visit her anytime :D
The goats are "mutts" ;) Ruthie is a Saanen/Arapawa cross, and Gladys is an Arapawa, Alpine/Nubian mix.
Yep, it's metal roofing; DH got it at Home Depot. It matches the metal roofing on his garage. :)

Maybe Ruthie wasn't talking loud enough
I will have to look for that roofing. I really like it.

wowza! that's a great looking goat house! ours is much more modest than that. looks like you guys have a great spot out in the woods somewhere. How many acres do you have?

You know I just realized that we used the same wood for our goats house too. I knew something looked familiar!

Oh, how I wish acres was, in fact, plural :eye: We are on 1/3 of an acre, but we are very much in the woods, so that's nice :)
We live on a private road on a lake so I can't complain too much about our small-ish yard ;)
Thanks for the compliment on the goat house; I'll be sure to tell DH :)

I LOVE it. Absolutely lovely. I also like that roofing. Did your dh find it difficult to work with?

Nope, not at all! In fact, he likes it so much he wants to re-do the roof on our house with metal roofing! I've talked him out of it for now

really! Now that's encouraging. I've always steered from it because I thought you'd need a cutting press and/or a brake. Must file this away for future use. yep.

that's good to know. The carport & outbuilding are roofed in sheet metal of some kind and a few pieces have been ripped off from the wind. *sigh*. We need a billion ft ladder to reach the roof of the carport. Whoever built it had a sailboat with the main mast not-take-downable, or something, cause it's hiiiiiiiiiiiiigh.
love the goat girls, give them a good scratch from me :D

hey 1/3 of an acre is definitely enough for a couple goats! we have a 1/2 acre lot but we also have a few acres of conservation easement land adjacent to our property so once in a while we bring them out there. But our goats have about a 100' x 50' area and that is more than enough for the 2 of them and the chickens.
do you guys have ramps and such for them? my dh loves building ramps for them to climb on. it's always hilarious to see them get wild and run through their "obstacle course"

We have a wooden pallet that is up on four logs that they LOVE! We are hoping to bring in a large rock for them to climb on and that will also help keep their hooves in good shape.
Our big goal, though, is to build a bridge from their yard up into the tree house that DH built (the kids NEVER go in it). I'll post pics once that gets done :)
Can I see some pics of what your goats have to play on? I need some inspiration ;)

Hey, at least you guys can *have* farm animals!!! I, currently, am only a wannabe homesteader who lives within the city limits and cannot even own a chicken!!!!
