I have been thinking of bees this week. I'd love them for pollination and I'm sure I could figure out other things.
Where did you get a hive? I need a bee how to I think.

we got a hive from a guy on craigslist. it was like $100 (kinda spendy but it came with the boxes that already have honey and all that good stuff in it already!)

Wonderful! CONGRATS! We have been seriously thinking about keeping bees in the near future. We have Japanese Knotwood growing all around us, which would make a honey like a like Buckwheat Honey that costs around $10/pound to buy.
Have fun!

Woah, how VERY VERY cool that the person did not want the honey taht was in the box. What a blessing. I am guessing there were no bees?
At least you will have everything to start. Is there anyone nearby that can do a split for you and you just buy a queen?
Again, assuming there are no bees in the hive already!

no there's bees in there! dh just went to get the hive and swarm in the evening when all the bees were back in their box (i guess they "come home" once it gets cool and dark? I'm new at this so i don't really know!) so we have a hive and the bees!! they seem to like their new spot under the oak tree~ So far, so good!
