Mine will mostly be funnies, but I enjoy seeing the little things (or big!) that people have learned. Important or not.

Some things that I learned...

Wearing sandals in the chicken runs is not a good idea...
wearing sandals with red painted toenails in the chicken run is an even WORSE idea! :vent: (They are attracted to red.)

If you are in a hurry to go somewhere, SOMETHING will happen that needs your immediate attention. Babies being born, chickens escaping from their cages or SOMETHING that will delay you. Count on it and pretend your leave time is earlier than it really is!

Baby bunnies WILL pee on you. They especially seem to enjoy doing so when you are in a hurry, dressed up and just stopped to check on them for a last second cuddle. See above. ;)

Half grown bunnies being chased by a playful kitty will squeal. Loudly.

It's very funny to watch a dachshund chasing the playful kitty who is chasing the squealing bunny and it's very, very hard to chase after them to catch poor bunny who doesn't understand the meaning of playing, when you're laughing so hard that your sides hurt. :eyes: (No baby bunnies were harmed in the making of this lesson.)

The beauty of life and nature doesn't even begin to cover it. You truly cannot understand it until you experince it, with all of its ups and downs and lessons learnd. Seeing a newly hatched chick (or even hatching one out yourself that is having issues), holding the new baby bunnies, seeing a roo do his little side step dance for the girls, watching the ducks excitedly flapping their wings in their new pool like they may take off if they could just flap a little harder...all of it...nothing is like it. There's nothing monetary or otherwise that could compare to being able to experience (and have my children experience so I can see it through their eyes) all of these things.

Okay, so I got mushy there for a bit. ;-)

Putting eggs in the pocket of your parka = not a good idea.

(Though I have been known to load up my sweatshirt pockets with them, then walk around like a pregnant woman trying not to break them before I get to the house to put them safely away.)

Catching a chicken (er, trying to) is a good way to feel foolish.

Most all of my funnies are in the "jump in" thread.

A crook made of a wire coat hanger makes it much easier to catch chickens.

When opening a well back up, a piece of nylon rope does not keep a 30 foot section of 3 inch PVC from dropping 120 feet down. (we're still trying to figure out how to pull it back up)

FFA and 4H chapters are a good place to go when you need sheep sheared (the kids generally take the money they make and use it for their projects).

I completely agree that there is no experience like it.

Also, everything tastes worlds better!!! The meat you (might) raise, the veggies from your garden, the fruit from your orchard...they carry a flavor "not sold in stores".

Our best investment in this whole fowl adventure was a $7 fishing net! ;-)
