Judas was asked by the soldiers to point out which one Jesus was so they could kill him. He agreed to do it, for compensation.

Okay, as in... Judas was greedy? Ok... what is the background to all this? Did Jesus trust Judas? Or He knew Judas would point him out?

Judas was one of Jesus's closest friends. He acted like he was completely devoted to Christ.

Judas was one of the 12 apostles. He agreed to hand Jesus over to the chief priests for 30 pieces of silver. I believe Jesus knew that Judas would betray him. (Read John 13:26-28)

I just bumped up a thread about the Magdalene legacy, and in that book there is a backstory about Judas that is fascinating. It's worth the read regardless. ;)
