Do you have one? Want one? Are you planning one?

We're in the early stages of "snooping" at others' designs and trying to figure out what makes sense for our land and our budget.

I would love to hear what you've researched, what you're planning, and if you have one - what does it look like? Where did you get it or did you DIY?

We are hoping to get one in this fall before the snows, so I can extend the growing season for greens this fall as well as start planting in it early next spring. Whether this happens depends on a few factors including budget and available time/energy (isn't that always the way).

We just picked up from a friend on our local recycle/freecycle board a dozen or so old windows in aluminum frames. A month or so ago, dh built plant boxes along each side of our locust post fence. I'm thinking that we can somehow attach the window frames to the fence posts at an angle, which will provide a longer growing season this year and allow for an earlier growing season next Spring. When we get it done, I'll try and remember to come back and post pics.

Good luck!

That's a very thrifty plan you put together! Good work, mama.

Do you have one? Want one? Are you planning one? We kind of have one. It's in poor, poor shape and off site from our home. Our current business is a former vegetable and garden stand. The property sat idle for 2 decades and the shape of the greenhouse mirrors that time. The foundation is cinder block and everything above my shoulders is glass or plastic. The tables and terra cotta pots (out my ears) are all there.

We're in the early stages of "snooping" at others' designs and trying to figure out what makes sense for our land and our budget. there's currently no budget for it's rehab but I'm stock piling "free" supplies. I just found a large roll of clear plastic.

I would love to hear what you've researched, what you're planning, and if you have one - what does it look like? Where did you get it or did you DIY? I'll try to remember to take a photo the next time I'm at the shop.

Whether this happens depends on a few factors including budget and available time/energy (isn't that always the way). Our greenhouse has an OLD heater in it. Truthfully, I think it's older than I am. I found a cord on it but I don't know if it's exclusively electric or if that's just the fan portion.

I'm looking at it as a fall project, when I can actually be in there and not need a shot of oxygen. oof. It's a cooker, so it's design is spot on. Every time I'm there, I'm without gloves so pulling stuff out isn't an option.

It seems one spot was dedicated to scrap wood with nails and I'm just not up for the rusty nail thing right now. hmmm. maybe that heater is wood.

I can't tell you how much I want it operational for winter greens. Seriously.

eta: sort of on topic. I've been keeping my eye out for free windows so I can build cold frames here at the house. My mom said my papa used to always use cold frames in Minnesota.

A greenhouse is our next project I think.

Supplies on hand:
* 10 Anderson sliding glass door panels ($20 each from Craigslist)
* solid wood door with 9 panes of glass in the top (free on the roadside)
* 2 Anderson double casement windows 4 feet high and 3 wide ($20 each) for one end

We just need two windows for each side of the door and lumber. We are going to use gravel as the floor.

I looked around at the Garden Web forums for ideas and this is my favorite:
Some Greenhouse Photos - Greenhouses & Garden Structures Forum - GardenWeb (http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/strucs/msg1022425114142.html)

She has garden sales and that is a long term goal of mine. The previous owners here had perennial sales and left me all of the sings so I have to carry on!

We also have some storm windows for cold frames and a metal hoop house if we choose to use it. But I think we will cover it with wire for chickens eventually as we have a lot of hawks here.

I'd like to get the Elliot Coleman books on year round growing. Because of where he is in Maine it's similar to where I am in CT only we are a bit warmer.

We have a dealership. But the land we bought is an old old...OLD farmer's market stand. The old timer hadn't run it as a stand for 2 or more decades.

Anyway, the greenhouse is attached to the backside of the old house...which is also vacant now because we built a shop/garage on the site when we moved in.

There are also asparagus beds and several old outbuildings. Nothing of size, just old coops and secondary greenhouses for excess plants. Those little buildings are fun, the old-timer used the cardboard insulation as his garden notes....recording dates and plant height. :)

We're under huge pressure from the historical society to give up 2 of the old coops. I don't want to tho. #1 they never showed up for the garden stand and the construction crew demo'd it. (I'm still upset 4 years later) and #2 they're cute and adorable little 6-sided buildings and I wanna keep them and maybe move them to the house some day. Even if I can barely stand up in them. I'm reluctant to tho because the zoning dept interferred twice with our building...shutting us down and making our life uncomfortable for months. I hate to rock that boat again. politics. jerks.

blah blah blah. :)

I'd want to keep them too. They sound so neat! My great grandparents owned a farm and greenhouse so I think I come by it through genetics.
