I'm wondering because my friend (who is a very conservative born again Christian) keeps saying this is what she believes. It just seems so pessimistic to me, but of course, I'm not well versed in the Bible at all. I do believe that Jesus Christ is my savior...but not sure about the end of the world being near.

I guess I was just wondering if you all could share what you think. Not so much biblical references, but what you believe.:)

I used to think that we were getting close, because there have been various prophecies and teachings and scriptures. But people have been saying the same thing for centuries, and I just don't think I believe it.

I also see some people use it as an excuse for things (like NOT taking care of the environment, or not being financially responsible or whatever.) Those are extreme types of people, I know.

Just for me, I feel a peace in NOT knowing what's ahead. I don't know, and that's okay. I don't have to. ;)

No, I do not feel like the end of the world is near in any sort of religious way. I do not believe in end of world prophecy, etc.

I do, however, see evidence that the world is in the beginning stages of a cleansing of sorts...a reset or restart if you will, such as when you restart your computer if it is acting weird.

Well, near is a relative term. I guess I believe that according to Biblical prophecy which hasn't failed us yet, we are experiencing some end of time signs. but I think there is more to happen. I am not well versed enough to be more specific, but I will ask Dh. He's good at that stuff.


eta...I do think the rapture is something that Christians will experience before the really terrible tribulations occur though. I don't think we as Christians will see the true "end of this world". Make sense?

Well, as a very devout LDS person, I do believe that the end of the world is near. Most Christians would probably agree. There are a lot of things that are starting to happen that I take as "signs".

However, I don't think that it's anything to be scared about. And since we don't know when it will be, it's important to live your best life and seek happiness regardless of how near or far the actual end is.

The greed and corruption in the world sickens me, so I actually look forward to it ending and a new era beginning.

That is about what we belive too.... I don't plan on seeing the end.

I am familiar with a lot of the current thinking/beliefs regarding fundamentalist Christian prophecies, because my ILs are in that group of folks and strongly believe that the Rapture is imminent. I don't think fundamentalist Christians would see the Rapture as a bad thing...more of a good thing for them.

There is a book I read recently called Have a Nice Doomsday which is a secular examination of why Christians believe the Rapture is coming soon. It was fairly well-written and helped explain to me the whole mechanism of how they think things will happen.

As for myself, I don't think the end of the world (as in, a big KA-BOOM!) is coming soon. I do think that the end of the world as we know it is coming soon. There are things happening with our environment and economy that are, in some cases, completely irreversible. The way in which things will play out is a mystery to me, but I think that in our children's lifetimes, things will be very, very different, and they will need a very different outlook, set of expectations, and skill sets in order to be successful.

Nope, and our scriptures DO have a timeframe, lol. And we are very far from it, with the world getting a LOT worse before that time. But we do see signs of the beginning of the degradation already.

My personal thoughts on this topic are not many.

This is why: I feel that many people get sooooo tied up with end-times prophecy and whatnot that they are compromising what they should be doing.....what Jesus told us all to do.....serve, love, "feed my sheep". I believe people can get so tied into being a "end-times-detective" that they stop showing the light of Christ to those around them.

If we (Christian) were to all do that, then the world would be a very dark place indeed.

I put a lot of importance in trying to live out my life as Christ showed in the NT. I also think about the various parables about being ready at all times....but that does not mean obsessing and trying to "read the signs" and whatnot. To me it means to stay close to my blessed Lord Jesus through prayer, study of the Bible, service to others, faith, hope, worship, and doing everything I can to shine the light of Christ upon those around me.

I have faith that all will be OK for me as I focus on serving Him during my life and not looking for the end of the world to come.

I do think it is good to study and read Revelation and other Prophecy books in the Bible....but there must be balance in all things!!

I think the world's end *as we know it* is near. But I don't think that global anihilation or what Christian's refer to as rapture is near, or actually a real possibility.

Well, so have a lot of other people. :) My scriptures even have a timeline. :p The end of the world is not solely the property of Christianity. Neither is religion.

That's funny - since Christianity is really young compared to "the beginning of time."
