My left nipple is definitely cracked & very owie when Indi first latches on :(
I think my other nipple may go the same way.
He's latching on really well with the right but only today have I got a good latch on the left.
I can't avoid feeding him on the cracked one as after a while my breasts get really full and overflow!
Any advice on healing my poor nips please?

Aw, he is so cute!! Congrats!
Plenty of fresh air will help. If you can leave the breast exposed after nursing, it will heal faster. Lanolin may also help.

I second the fresh air and lanolin... AND when it's really hurting I used Playtex gel soother Playtex Soothing Gel Pads : Target (http://www.target.com/Playtex-Soothing-Gel-Pads/dp/B000KJYR1Y/sr=1-2/qid=1210800514/ref=sr_1_2/601-7437117-0008924?ie=UTF8&rh=k%3Aplaytex%20nursing&page=1) pads (kept them in the fridge)
He sure is a cute baby :) Congrats

I had one the day after Vivian was born. I know the agony! It started to get better and now she is being lazy with her latch and I'm so paranoid it is going to happen again.
I hope yours feels better soon!

Tons of lanolin made it bearable to nurse on for me.

Thanks ladies :)
I just realised that I've been covering up as soon as he's finished & not letting them dry so that could be part of the problem hey?!
I'll have to get some lanolin then, glad I haven't gone back to veganism yet, lol!

Those are all good suggestions.
If your nipples never heal, no matter what you do, then you may want to see if you have a staph infection in them.
I spent weeks of misery with open bleeding nipples. I did everything possible (read every book, talked to every person, went to lactation consultant-no internet access at the time). And nothing helped, not even remotely. Finally, after six weeks of this hell, a lactation consultant sent me to a dermatologist who prescribed bactroban (topical antibiotic). Staph had set in, and that is why it hadn't healed on its own.
Not that I think that you have staph, I'm just throwing this out for just in case, you know?
