What are some fun ways to increase vocabulary and work on spelling?

These are some things my 8yo needs to work on, and I think from some things she's been saying that she would like to be a better speller. She needs to work on her vocabulary for reading fluency.

i let lyl write the shopping lists, she writes letters to pen pals and family and calvert has a dictionary unit that she really likes working with

My ds is very hands-on and loves using scrabble tiles to spell out words. Sometimes I give him a word and he has to find all of the letters and spell it out or if it's something harder, I'll pick out the tiles he needs but he puts them in order.

Sometimes we hit a balloon back and forth and spell out the letters in a word as we hit it to each other.

I just ordered Wordly Wise because I'm not very creative with this stuff. :) I want them to be learning words they might not normally come across or need.

My son used Wordly Wise last year and really enjoyed it.

I second the suggestions for Wordly Wise--it's great for vocabulary building. Also, we use "A Reason For Spelling" with our ds and he loves it. Our oldest dd is a natural speller and has done Spelling Power in the past, but I can't see it working as well with a child who is struggling with spelling.

I see Wordly Wise, then I see Wordly Wise 3000. Which one am I looking at?
