I know a few people here use the cds. Are they just the books read aloud? Is there music added? Do your children enjoy them?

I am thinking about getting a set for out drive to Michigan even though dd probably has vol 2-4 memorized from reading them so many times. I wonder if my boys would get anything out of them -- ages 5 and almost 8 (with a severe language delay.)

It is exactly that, reading the book.

Jim Weiss reads the last 2, I believe.

I love the cd's. We play them while reading along with the books. I hate reading aloud and it's nice to have someone who actually knows how to pronounce all the odd names doing it for me lol.

We also play them in the backround when we do art/handwork. If we were the type who were in the car a lot I'd play them then too.

The big question is Where in Michigan? When?
We're in Flint. :-)

I will be in Brighton most of the summer -- with lots of trips to Warren and Fraser (parents and in-laws) to do laundary and visit.

I lived in the metro-Detroit area my whole life until Sept. Mapquest is showing a 21 hour drive. I am thinking of doing a long-ish drive with 2 stops of 2 days or so to camp, explore caves and mountains and let the children run around.

Jim Weiss reads the newer version of 1. He was working on 2, last I heard, not sure if it's been released yet. We listenned to volume 1 and part of 2 on our drive from GA to WA last summer. My older two were 4 and almost 6 (we arrived here 3 days before her birthday) and loved listening to them.

Thanks everyone. Everything Jim Weiss tends to be wonderful.
