we are running out the door to SC but i was talking with my daughters friend and she was telling me about the math that she does. i had to look it up (since its math and m and i LOVE math). and i have found something for m that i think will satisfy her need for structure and my need for unschooling :)

That looks AWESOME! I sent it to my homeschool group. I will keep it in mind for a couple of years down the road. (Although I am contemplating getting the Calculus one for my 19 year old son ;)).

I keep hearing about this. It definitely looks right up our alley. If you decide on getting it, please share your thoughts about it.

Tara and Sam use Life of Fred. We're looking at some more 'real world' ways to incorporate math. Actually, I'm looking at it as a way to incorporate more reading into my boys' lives... they all like math so much they will do problems and make up problems, but forget to read. If some of it was more integrated that would probably be a good thing. :)
I just printed off some of the sample pages for Dylan. I thought it was pretty neat. I think he still likes Singapore more.

I got this for my 10 year old a few weeks ago. It looks great for a "Sociable" learner like she is.
Yes, we've used LOF informally for about 6 months (maybe more, I can't remember when we got the book). We have the Beginning Algebra book. Sam really digs it. It's pleasure reading for him. He likes the storyline and rereads the book over and over again. He's done about half the problems. I think it's great for a mathy kid (and maybe a not-so-mathy kid).
Some people do use it as a standalone math curriculum, but we don't.

What age is this geared at? Sounds advanced from my quick glance. But dd is a huge reader and she might like it to read and to understand why learning basic math is important.
One of Branwyn's links also had a geometry book about sacred geometry in the world. Anyone used anything like that?

My 5th grader is using the fractions book.

Any opinions from the 5th grader? Would my almost-done-with-4th grader like this for summer reading?
And this is the sacred geometry book from the same site I was wondering if anyone has used: Beginner's Guide to Constructing The Universe.

Do you think this would be good for a kid who loves to read but hates math?? It seems like it might be a good summer activity for us...
