reading as in phonics?
For phonics I love Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading. Really my only complaint is that it doesn't come with little readers with it. I think it would be excellent if they would take the text out of the book and make it into readers.

for a 6, almost 7 yo
she has a lot of trouble associating letters and sound. Sight words is a little better except that she just learns the shape of the words, then when 2 look similar she can't tell the difference and it's frustrating.
I need something that will help me teach her a little more effectively.

We use Sing, Spell, Read and Write and have had excellent results.

I know that for us, we put away phonics for a while and then picked it up a little later and the boys were more ready for it.
I think I would make up some letter sound games and focus on that for a while. Then after she gets the hang of the sounds she will be ready for a reading program. Do lots of basic pre reading practice and something that will give her lots of positive success.
It sounds like she just isn't ready for it yet and a few months will make all the difference.

Not a phonics program...But what about using Handwriting without Tears's "hands on" things to help her with the different shapes of the letters. It sounds like if she's having trouble with the shape of the letters and associating the shape of the letter with the sound it makes. HWT's makes wood pieces and letter cards. You use the wood pieces to make the letter on the card. There are a few other things like that, roll a dough, and stamp and see screen that might be good too.

Rocket Phonics is working for Patrick where nothing else did. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's his age. Maybe it's the presentation. But it was designed by a man with ADHD for kids with ADHD, and it really suits Patrick's learning style. Rowan, who is a very different learner from Patrick, also likes it.

Thanks for all your suggestions.
I signed her up for click'n'read phonics. She enjoyed the first lesson. I think learning thru a computer game will be really appealing to her. Hopefully she'll do well with it. :O)
