I realize I am obsessing over this but that is just me.

I am going to do MFW Adventures with G and E in the fall. I can purchase the entire deluxe set from MFW for $355 including shipping. Now we will have the money (thank you tax rebate man) but I haven't ever paid full price for curriculum. I always buy second hand or piece things together with Amazon and Rainbow Resource and the primary company.

I already have 3 of the books I would need. I don't need the Bible they suggest. So I have figured that I can piece together the program for about $300.

I really am struggling with this. I want to buy from the company because I like that they support missions and I like the idea of it. But $50 is alot of money for us. Yes, we will have it but it is still alot of money. Dh just wants me to decide and buy it. But that is the way he is, he would pay retail for everything if it wasn't for me. So I know he will be ok with what ever I decide as long as I just decide.

What would you do and why?

Honestly, I am not familiar with the curriculum you are using, but I would suggest Used homeschool curriculum, and homeschool groups, events, and activities (http://www.homeschoolclassifieds.com) It's my first choice before I shop from anywhere else.

In piecing the program make sure you figure in shipping costs. A difference of $50 is not significant when you start adding up shipping from multiple locations. What we are using for next year (ECC MFW, Prima Latina, ETC wkbks- I think thats all I ordered) I chose to piece. I was able to get the bulk of the ECC books from a local mama so no shipping, then I was going to order from half.com because there were a lot of books at a great price but once I started figuring in $4 shipping per item via multiple sellers it was no longer a savings. I ended up ordering from Rainbow Resource and adding a few extra ETCwkbks that we'll need eventually since I was so close to the free shipping level. Then I ordered the final items I needed direct from MFW (so they were my only shipping charge)- all told I saved just shy of $100. The savings is nice and I may do the same again next year but I might not as well- it was a lot of pricing and websurfing and figuring and refiguring.

Things seem to sell well and fast on the MFW swap board if you decide to get the full set and just sell the parts you don't need.

Either way I'd say you're good to go- just remember the shipping costs involved and also decide soon. Don't succomb to prolonged stress for the sake of saving some dollars :P

ITA, I've done that before piecing things from websites trying to get a better deal. So in the long run I may have saved 40 bucks, but I spent hours and hours doing it. My time, and yours, is just as valuable! Sometimes it's better to pay a little more and save time.

I just bought MFW and did the deluxe package even though I also had a few of the books. It was extra money, yes, but it saved me a huge headache. I have been piecing things together for the last 2 years, and this was SO much easier. I got MUS all from them and then anything else I needed I just got from Rainbow Resource. It was hassle free and now we are all set and it is by far the easiest thing I've ever done.

Thanks guys, I was figuring the shipping with the $50 savings and when I talked to dh about it today he said to just buy it from MFW. I have a couple of the books already so I will resale them or list them on PBS. I have pieced together our curriculum for 4 years now and so the thought of putting all that money down in one place at one time is daunting. But the reality is that we have the money and I like that MFW supports Bible translation so I feel pretty good about it. The other thing is that with WP I could get all the books cheaper from Amazon (significant savings) but MFW prices seem to line up with Amazon so I don't feel like they are padding their prices.

Sounds like we are doing almost the same thing. I am getting the deluxe package from MFW and Math from MUS.
