I realized our back area doesn't get nearly as much sun as I thought. Maybe 4-6 hours a day.
Any ideas?

Vegetable Gardening In Containers (http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/extension/container/container.html)
"Nearly all vegetable plants will grow better in full sunlight than in shade. However, leafy crops such as lettuce, cabbage, greens, spinach and parsley can tolerate more shade than root crops such as radishes, beets, turnips and onions. The root vegetables can stand more shade than those which bear fruit, such as cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes and eggplant. "

You are talking edibles right? I'm looking for more ideas, too, but a few I have found:
lettuce
arugula
cilantro
leeks
bok choi
mint
some berries
green onions
chives and peas do OK - just don't get as big/many
Just for looks I like ferns, bleeding heart, hellebores, a few hostas, lily of the valley...
