Just when I think I have everything figured out, I start doubting myself. Anyway, has anyone here used calvert? We would be using it for my dd who will be 6th grade.
I am just thinking the classical/WTM method my dd isn't really happy with, so I am thinking that having everything planned out and a more of open the textbook and go method might work better for her???
Any opinions?

we used it for m's 2nd grade and she loved it, i loved it - it was school in a box, everything all laid out for you and ready to go (they even give you pencils and paper :D)

It's definitely school in a box. My son did fine with it when he dropped out of K (I got 1st grade for him), but when I got 2nd grade the following fall...he wouldn't have anything to do with it.
What did you all not like about WTM? She may not like this any better.
At my house, we have issues with worksheets and things not being connected all together. (Like you are reading about MLK in history and about dinosaurs in reading and about seasons in science). He had a HUGE issue with that. and the worksheets.

Don't get me wrong I love WTM and will continue using this method with my boys. I think dd just need more structure. She really doesn't enjoy reading, so I was thinking instead of "real books" maybe textbooks would be easier for her. She is find with workbooks and worksheets. I had planned to do sonlight with her, just not all the books? I would really like her to enjoy the books she reads more and thought sonlight might help? I already have everything for sonlight, borrowed from my sister.
I just had a friend purchase Calvert for her son, I really like how there is no thinking on my part as far as putting everything together, it just all layed out. Also I found someone that is selling the complete Calvert 6 for cheap.

It sounds like it may be a good match for her. It is very worksheet/workbook driven. Lots of writing, but it is very structured.

Hoo boy, I don't think Sonlight would be a very good fit here. It's pretty much all reading, very very few workbooks/worksheets. I know they advertise themselves as creating a love of reading through their wonderful book choices, and I'm not knocking SL in the least, as we do use it off and on, but it isn't magic . . .
If she's comfortable with workbook/worksheets, and you have the Sonlight books, maybe use something along the lines of Calvert but supplement (slowly) with the Sonlight books to spark that love of reading? They are in general good, interesting books.
Just that if you go with SL and she dislikes reading, you'll have a year of all-out war trying to get her through the curriculum and make her hate reading even more, I'm afraid . . .

Yeah, I think you are right. I think I might just go ahead and purchase the Calvert (used) since it's such a good deal and then dd and I can look at it together.

Or at least that is what I am thinking right at this moment, it could all change if I keep thinking too much about it. LOL:) I just wish I could make a decision and feel good about it and not feel like I have to keep looking.

one good thing, if you dont like calvert - you can totally resell it for pretty much what you paid for it
