There is this moldy smell in my washer. It helps a bit if I leave the lid open but the next time I do a load of wash it comes right back. If you sniff the clothes they are fine but when you lift the lid it stinks like mold. ( I do have a sensitive sniffer though) Anyway, how can I get rid of this? It kinda creeps me out. I have done TONS of laundry in it some on hot and I think I have even bleached a load or 3. It was here from the previous owners and when we moved in we found a load of laundry in there left so long it was dry. And of course moldy, we moved here in summer. I know we bleached it then but it lives on!!!!

I would leave the lid open every time you empty it so it can dry inside. You might want to let some bleach water soak in there with no clothes. I'm guessing there was/is mold between the inner and outer tub. I would have no idea how to really get rid of it without taking the whole thing apart, but soaking for awhile should help penetrate whatever might be stuck in there.

To completely get rid of it, you have to take the machine apart and clean it out.
Wipe everything down with a bleach solution. It's a big pain, I know.

ugh! I will try the soaking. Morgansma have you taken it apart? I wouldn't even know how to begin!?!?! MEN!!!! That's who left that load in b/f we moved here! Grrrrrr!

Yeah, we had to take one apart at one time. It smelled and when the lid came off the mold was growing inside. Are you in a humid environment? Our humidity is pretty high here. You know, I had the washer/dryer outside years ago and never had mold. Now they're inside and I'm constantly fighting it. Figures.
