Food Ministry and Hunger Relief: Angel Food Ministries (http://www.angelfoodministries.com)

We're going to try this for April, because geesh! how much money would that save us on groceries? I'd have enough left over to buy my food allergic person anything her little gluten-free heart desired.

We've never gotten food from them before so i don't know how there stuff is, but a friend told me they're good. Anyone else doing this?

I believe some folks on the CF (cystic fibrosis) lists use them, because it's terribly expensive to feed a kid w/CF since they eat tons, and it's terribly important as well to feed them as much as they can possibly eat.

Not much to be lost by trying!

It's a great program. If we had it locally, I'd sign up in a second.

It isn't offered around here either, but I often suggest it to friends and family in the midwest who are struggling.

I keep meaning to see if our church can be a distribution site. Thanks for the reminder, I'll contact them this week.

check out Share Colorado too, they are in 13 states I think and it seems like they have a greater variety of fresh produce and less processed meats.

SHARE looks even neater since the food seems healthier - anyone know if there is a group out west? I can only find the regional sites - there is one for WI and surrounding areas.....

There are not any branches anywhere near where I live. However, I have heard wonderful things about the food quality and how this program really helps folks (like most of us) who are what they call "middle class" who make too much money for assistance but struggling or just barely getting by each month.

I think it is great that you have this opportunity!!!

Thank you!!!!

I'm so glad I opened this thread.

A gal I'm becoming good friends with is really active in the local Catholic church and she has been wanting to get the priest to agree to some kind of program that would reach out to the community. We don't have anything like this in our area!!! And our area in Wyoming is one of the more populated places (after Casper and Cheyenne)......I emailed her and am going to phone her later on tonight.

Your welcome Michelle, I hope it helps out! I am sure there are many people in that area that can use it! One thing I think is really cool, on the website and in the flyers they give out with your order they give you a menu for the whole month and show you how to plan it all out and what to get. I have never done it full on, we have just ordered a share here and there, but I think it is a really great program!

Under the classic share, where it say 'variety of fruits and veggies', if I remember right that ended up being a bag of potatoes, bag of onions, bag of carrots, bag of apples, bag of oranges.

hope you like it! we used it for several months before we ended up getting a different sort of assistance and not really needing angel food ministries. i really really appreciated having it, but was SO very grateful not to have to use it for 6 months or so. i'm not a huge meat person, and their quite processed meats icked me out a lot. i did find that i liked it much better if i could kind of hide it in spaghetti sauce or in a crock pot meal or something that wasn't just eating it by itself. i try really hard not to be too negative about their stuff, though, because i think it's a great help to many...and has been a blessing to us as well. i figure we won't have to eat meat that icks me out forever! LOL! :)

thanks for the reminder to go look up the dates for april. we'll use it for a few months again.

We don't have AFM here, but I love SHARE - it saves me so much money, and the food is generally healthy - not organic or anything, but I can't afford organic right now!

Our church has a food ministry - and we hand out fresh produce once a month. Some months there are lots of fresh veggies and fruits... last month I heard there was a lot of pop and white bread... not much else. :(

Thing is, a lot of the people coming through at our church are homeless- and so the fresh veggies (especially) are difficult for them to actually use. They have no cooking equipment, nothing! So many of them live on the beach and have absolutely nothing.

We used a food pantry when we were pretty bad off. It saved us a few times.

Oh I am really hoping SHARE moves further down Texas... for now it's just the DFW area.

We tried AFM for a couple of months. Some of their stuff was good, some wasn't. In the end we decided it wasn't a good deal for us because we really don't want the cheap carby mixes that it often has, and only some of the meat was good. We can do that well at WalMart on our own.

I just placed an order this afternoon for the first time. We've been meaning to order for a few months now but kept forgetting and missing the deadline each month. :)
We were at the AFM in December for a concert and the kids got to peek into the warehouse and said it was MASSIVE, they had just processed a record breaking month at 550,000 orders!

We use angel food ministries and are pleased. I would love more produce, but I am so happy with what we do get that I am not about to complain.

Angel food has made sure that my children have food to eat for the last three months.

We have Angel food and share food here...we much prefer share over angel food. I really like it with share that I can get one unit and an extra of the fruits and veg's.

We have Angel Food here. I've gotten it once or twice and have been satisfied with the stuff. They had a chicken tender special in December and my kids LOVED them.... I wish I had risked it and gotten two of them.

I am going to get my sister to sign me/us up again for this month. I'll pay for hers since she drives to the place to pay and pick it up (no vehicle here). Still worth it for both of us.

I have used angel food on and off and like it. Some months they have a lot of ribs tho and we don't eat ribs. I have not done the share program I will have to look and see if there is one close to us. Every time I go the store something has went up in price it is getting crazy.

I just looked at Mays menu and it looks really good.

I know what you mean
We pick up out package next Saturday and I ordered 4 regular units that each come with 4 lbs of oranges. What am I going to do wiht 16 lbs of oranges? We don't even like oranges. I'll spend the whole week giving oranges out like they were sticks of gum

I checked into share, and we don't have it here. Hopefully Angelfood will go well for us. At those prices, compared to what food is at the grocery store, it'll be hard to complain too hard about it.

I had to laugh about the oranges!
We are big orange eaters here so it won't be a problem. (I only ordered 1 unit to try them out.) I think we went through about 70 lbs in the past few months. We live just a couple of blocks from Sam's and those 10 lb bags of oranges were really good this winter.
