My kids had a First Day of Spring Snow Day.
We got 8-12 inches from late afternoon yesterday till mid-morning today. Yesterday it was lovely and the trees were delicately outlined in snow. Overnight the wind started. It is so bad out there right now that I have bits of spruce thrown all over the snow outside. It was ten freaking degrees most of the day. I went out to feed the chickens and nearly got blown over.
All winter we have had paths dug/blown out of the snow - from house to driveway to garage to chicken coop, and to propane tank. The "driveway" itself is just a strip we keep where we think most of the driveway is. Most snowstorms, we just redo the paths a bit, blow the new snow out of them, because the banks are pretty hard and tall. Well our landscape just got rearranged. ;) No path to the house - there's a waist-deep drift at the bottom of what is left of the steps. No more driveway. LOL. It is craaazy out there. I came in, Katie decided she had cabin fever and needed to get out in the snow to play. She and Jake are out there now. It's sunny but when the wind gusts every couple of minutes, you have to just stand still and grit your teeth through it. It's about 20 deg out there now.
Anyway...whew. I was supposed to go to a conference 2 hrs from here. Nope. Not happening. Winter is still in full effect. Dh did make it to school, barely, and later than usual but he had a conferences day so it was okay. Our immediate area was hit much harder than the rest of the state so it was really just a belt of schools that closed...kinda crazy in fact. They don't usually start until 6.15 but they started coming on at around 5.50 this morning.
