I'm hating my house. There, I said it.:eyes:
It's a rental - 3 bedrooms, 1 bath, no basement, no attic, no garage, no pantry, no linen closet, no bathroom closet...it's a long list of the things I'm disliking right now. It is a lake front camp that was converted to year round use. It's cold and drafty and really hard to heat the whole thing with one wood stove. I'm sick of the dirt and ash from the wood stove.
In the summer, it's awesome. We're right on the lake so our days are spent playing in the water and hanging out outside. But summer in Vt is only 3 mo long. :)
We're not really prepared to buy a house, but we could if we really wanted to. Just trying to pay off student loans. Oh - and our rent is really reasonable for the area and our location.
My dh even said today how much he dislikes the house and how cramped it feels.:wah: We really don't have much stuff but there just isn't a place for everything so then it feels cluttered even though there really isn't anything to get rid of.
If I could wave a magic wand I'd be in another house in a minute.:) This house is sort of part of "the plan" but right now it's really sucking.:wah:
Sorry for the vent, I just needed to get it off my chest.:) I hope it's just spring fever and once we can get outside more I'll feel better about it. I'm really sick of this house!:help:

We are in your exact position - well, almost. We rent a 2 bed house, and are in a city. I'm trying to declutter this month just because even with the few things we *do* have, it's just so *cramped*. And we're paying student loans too before buying, although luckily this year we may be able to buy (finally!). We've been here 5 years now, and it's just ENOUGH.
 Soon mama, soon!

I hate my house, too, only I own this POS. I've got killer cabin fever, too. I wonder if it's related.

Sadly, yes. The thing with the other house fell through when we couldn't sell this place fast enough and it was just so stressful to keep an, er, challenging house in show-able condition that we decided to shelve it for a year or so until we can make some more major repairs and the kids are a bit less Dr. Destructo. :)
And hi!

I think you should move here :)
Sorry you're miserable, though. I've SOOO been there (in rentals and in the first house we bought). Blah!!! It seeps into your veins and messes with your psyche at every moment.

Thanks everyone, it helped to just let go of that feeling and put it into words.
Sandi - if Wash U paid better....;)
Elise, I'm sorry you're still in your house too. I remember reading your threads, feeling bad for you and how much you disliked your house.
I really hope it's just cabin fever.

The anxiety and feelings associated with cabin fever is very real. No house is big enough, all space closes in. ugh.
I feel for you. I really do.
We traveled during late winter this year. It helped huge. I know it's not always practical but I can tell (already) that it was worth the investment. oof.
((hugs))

I guess I might have kvetched a wee bit too much about my house, eh? :)
The funny thing is, I have learned SO MUCH about contentment, peace and the real source of happiness living here that I never would have learned anywhere else. I really had to divorce my general happiness level from my surroundings and (gah, this sounds trite) find happiness within or at least in other things. I wouldn't have learned this if I could have derived satisfaction from a beautiful house in a wonderful setting.
drafty crappy houses..... :vent:
I have been renting places for over 4 years now, moving from my ex husband's crappy drafty house with 5 people and a baby and one bathroom!
Some of my challenges in rentals- no hot water, in DECEMBER! I had to haul hot water by bucketfuls from the other side of the apartment balconey (that laundry roomhad hot water) to bathe the kids and have hot water to wash dishes. TOTALLY ILLEGAL what the landlords were doing, but I had no place to go and didnt want to get evicted by complaining too loudly. Same place also had carpeting with gaping holes in it, exposing the subflooring, as well as a tree fell and blew out my kids' bedroom window. Took over a week for them to replace the window. I had plywood and duct tape.
Another S**thole- same buckets that I had for carrying hot water were used to collect rain trickling into my house. Bathroom floor was ready to give way; the toilet rocked and whenever anyone of average or bigger size came over, I felt so rude having to warn them about the toilet!
NO INSULATION! We froze our bee-hinds off! I only bathed the kids once a week in the winter. It would have been child cruelty to make them be naked for more than 10 minutes in that house.
That is only a few places. I hope you are not dealing with anything like that!
What if you got some light colored heavy drapes for the drafty windows? Would that help your mood?
What about spray foam insualtion around drafty windows?
Good luck!

It is cabin fever for sure.
I hate the slobs who live in my house (not me). They make my pretty house seem a bit depressing. They don't think they are slobs but I do.
LOL.
I guess I have cabin fever too!
