The local bead shop sends out periodic email newsletters. Today, Andrea sent out a message that she has a free piano - her sister is moving and she can't take it with her - she just wants it to go to a good home!!!
It's a Wurlitzer! I am SO excited and cannot wait to see it!!!

I've got a free piano in my basement I've been begging someone to take. It's gorgeous...from the 1904 World's Fair.

That's awesome! I've been looking for a piano for us for awhile. There's actually one at mobap that we can have, but it will cost $300 to get it home, plus it needs work. I'm waiting for the one that lands on my doorstep. ;)

Congrats Sandi! My first piano was a Wurlitzer. :) I currently claim possession of a lovely Sohmer which I went to the factory with my parents to buy when I was nine...it lives in my mom's house in Florida though. ;)

Thanks :)
Am I going to need more than two men to move it?
Cool! I say that knowing none of my children use my piano that I hauled down from NC in a rented pickup truck in the snow, uphill both ways. I still love having it. I think they're great to have around. You never know which kid might love playing.

I am not sure...we hired someone to move the Sohmer down from NY to my house in FL, and I hired a local piano mover to move it to my mom's. They had only 2 guys but a very efficient way of moving it with a dolly made for it, kwim?
We hired 2 guys with the right equipment, too. They charged me per stair up from the driveway. Not the cheapest free piano.

I think you need a piano dolly. I grew up playing on a wurlitzer. They are lovely. You're so lucky. Though even if someone offered us one I'm not sure where I'd put it. We have just about 900 sq ft:lol:
