do you have area rugs? Or just throw rugs? Do you move them when you mop? All of them all the time....or just some of them...some of the time.....???

What do you have in each room? Specifically, I am wondering about dining room, living room, bedrooms.....I have throw rugs in several spots in my kitchen that can be washed often and moved out of the way to mop. But the other most used areas are a little trickier to clean....

So what do you do?

I have an 5 x 8 area rug, a 5 ft runner and a 4x 6 in front of my door. Yes I (usually) move the smaller ones when I mop and sweep. I also have a runner in my hallway, that gets picked up. I tried not having rugs, but omg, its much easier to shake and sweep the rugs than keep up with the whole floor, that getsd traked up by dogs and kids!

I have an 8X10 rug in my living room, I don't move often, but every few months I roll it up and sweep under it to keep the finish under nice.

We have 5X8 rugs in two of the bedrooms and plan on getting one for the 3rd bedroom soon.

Then I also have a fairly large rug in front of my kitchen sink and a 4X6 rug in my entry (those two I move out to clean under).

We have 87 year old wood floors throughout the house. The only place I have a rug is in my closet. I don't care for area rugs and such. I think that just plain floors are much cleaner. We just wear socks a lot!

Be careful with rugs on your floors. Little bits of dirt and stuff can get under them and really damage the floors.

We have one rug down on the laminate area. We just vacuum it when we vacuum the floor. When we do the floors with the floormate, we don't usually move the rug because it isn't dirty underneath :)

Sandra you are really making me want a floormate, darn it!

I'm really thinking I'd love to ditch our dining room rug. Or get rid of our HUGE living room rug and use the smaller one there. My husband is very attached to his big ol rug  and I do like having one in that area because we play on the floor there by the fire. The colors in the two rugs clash and they are in the same area.

Anyway......The big one takes up way more area than it should and it make it hard to clean the floors in the entry - which need it often!

So I'm trying to figure out how to change it to make it comfy, prettier and easier to clean. Hmph....

I have an 8x10 area rug in the living room - which actually should be larger, but I got it to go into the living room of my old house and I love it. When I vacuum the living room I fold the rug into 3rds or 1/4s and vacuum under it as well as the underside of it, then I vacuum the top of it. I also have 6x9 rug in my 'den' which I fold infrequently because furniture sits on top of it, but I do lift the edges and vacuum underneath it. I have a runner in the upstairs hall which is removed to clean the hallway. I also have a rug next to my bed. Basically I always clean beneath the rug, the underside and then the top. I hate dirt. I mop only some of the time - usually around the rug, but when I do deep cleaning then I move the rug. Hope this helps!

The main reason we have a rug is for something to anchor our furniture on!

Oiled pine floors, no rugs. I need to get a rubber-backed mat for under my office chair - the wheels are shredding the pine; it's getting splintery. In fact we're having this problem in a lot of wear areas because the pine is so soft. It needs to be reoiled, I think.

we have an area run in the living room (two actually) and they don't get moved....we have a throw rug at the back door and nothing under the dining table or on the kitchen floor...we have area rugs in the bedrrooms that don't get moved either.

i like having rugs b/c it helps with noise...not so echoey and loud.
