I want to make some sort of medicine bag/ caddy/ carrying case for an 8 year old. I'm debating between sewing something or knitting something.
She has to carry with her an inhaler and spacer, an epi-pen, liquid benedryl, liquid ibuprofen, imatrex, and a few other odds and ends like droppers, and if she's going overnight somewhere her daily meds she takes. I want to be able to put this all in one bag that is well organized and easy to find the right meds in case of an emergency. But I want it to be cute and easy for her to carry too. It needs to be easy to clean because sometimes bottles leak. Oh, and we're suspecting a latex allergy so I would need it to be latex free.
I would appreciate any suggestions. Patterns, style, fabric/yarn things like that.
Thanks!

Do they still make caboodles? I might look at those to get some ideas, plus some of those tool bucket caddies, like that. OR sometimes craft stores or places like Jo-Anns have craft bags/boxes.

That to me is too large/ackward. But the basic concept is good, you could make a messenger style bag, only smaller, with the same type of pockets on the outside (maybe lined pockets? would PUL work?)
Something more like this (http://www.luggagepoint.com/lpProductDetail.asp?productId=15612&source=SHOPZILLA&srccode=cii_10043468&cpncode=12-36172764-2) is what I'm imagining.
Then again, I don't know what's popular for girls now-a-days, my girls are hs'd and my sister's 17 and that's a whole other age group.
Hope you find something great mama!

garn, it ate part of my post!
This (http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog_old.jsp?CATID=114121&PRODID=176369&rId=GOBASECI&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=DEG%2520N%2520312424) would be very easy to replicate, and I love that it's called of all things, a "junk bag" and is meant to sort/store crafts in :hahaha: Probably not too stylish, but would go in a backpack well, and you could use pul or something for washabilitly . . If you doubled the fabric so the outside was cute and it was lined with pul inside the pockets, that might be cute if functional.
this (http://www.thegivingflower.de/patterns/Purse_Organizer_Recipe18_11.pdf) is cute, and you could roll it all up and have a ribbon to tie at one end?
sorry for the confused jumble, it's the best i could ressurect of my sanity.

Oh, I handn't thought of PUL. It come in all sorts of designs. hmm...
We home school too, so she's with me at home most of the time, but I wanted her to have something cute and well organized for church and girl scouts and things like that when she's away from me for a while. Maybe it could look like a cute bag, but I could put some sort of label on it so people know that's where her meds are.
All those pockets are exactly what I need. I want them to be see thru though. And I'm trying to figure out how to get away with not using elastic on the tops of the pockets.
How about a bag that opens up like the bags you put a bible in? With a zipper. With lots of pockets made out of ... something? Maybe some sort of mesh, on one side. And make straps (like in a diaper bag) out of something latex free on the other side.
All right, I've got a good start on it. Just have to work out some details now. :)

if you don't need the cinching of the elastic, you could just use bias tape? but if you did need it to cinch, you could fold over the fabric and use ribbon or string and a toggle?
i'm really tired so not sure i'm making sense of anything.
