Today's plan for Kaya (1st grade)

Right now Kaya is working on a poster about mammals. We did some reading about characteristcs of mammals and I printed off clip art of varios animals. She is picking out a few that are mammals to color and stick onto her poster. I'll also encourage her to draw some mammals on there was well.

When she is done, I will have her write a few facts about mammals to stick onto her poster.

After that, we are going to cover primary and secondary colors. I will get out glasses with water and have Kaya add blue, red and yellow food coloring to different glasses. Then she can mix two primary colors to see what secondary colors she comes up with. I'll have her label the three primary colors on a piece of paper and then show the results of her mixing in the form of an addition sentence : red + yellow = orange etc.

For math, I plan to work with Kaya on coin values and counting up combinations of dimes, nickles and pennies. She will also have a few addition problems to solve with carrying.

With the new month upon us, I am going to print off a calendar page for January where we can track the weather and temperature. I'll have her practice writing the new date/year.

That is all that is planned today besides reading, which I don't have anything specific in mind. She will also play Webkinz and maybe braingoo

We're going to stay in pj's as long as possible :lol: (dd1&2 are still in bed, it's 9:40am). We're going to watch the Rose Parade. Right now we're watching the making of the Rose Parade which is educational. ;)

Technically we're still on vacation since we follow the public school's calendar. We'll probably sneak something in later today though. I'd like to have her play Booger Gets an A on Webkinz. I love that game!

We're on vaca until tomorrow but we'll have some reading time today and the girls will probably want to go online to play Club Penguin after dinner.

Today is an Exploration Day for us, we are studying rainbows at the moment. That means we'll be discussing the color spectrum (with related craft project) and making rainbows with water glasses and mirrors and such. Dh will likely read the kids some of their library books on the topic, I'll have them both due some independent reading with (ds is in the final set of Bob books and dd reads selections of library books each week as she passed all the Bob books). They may have some independent art tme, play with pattern blocks/pattern animals. Dh and I plan to take them to the YMCA today to swim and this evening we'll be at my mom's house as we still have relatives in town.

I checked out passes to the art museum from the library so I need to get that on our calender several times over the next 3 weeks. I also need a new large desk calender for 2008 as I hang this on our wall for the kids to reference daily, I should do that today.

Exploration Days are scheduled into my curriculum and are generally quieter days book-work wise and more hands on projects and outside time.
