We follow the vacation schedule of the public schools (3 of my kid are in public school), so technically dd2 is on break. Yesterday she made my heart proud. We bought an encyclopedia set at our church's rummage sale a couple years ago. The set is older than I am (by a year or two), but it's great for spontaneous learning.

She had been asking dh and I about the cat's whiskers and why they were that length, etc. A short while later, she had the C volume and was looking up "cats." After a while, she took it back into the room where the set is kept. I thought she was done but then she walked back into the room with 5-6 volumes. She sat at the dining room table thumbing through the volumes for a while.

This is one of the things I love about homeschooling!

What shocked dh and I was that usually when she has a question and I suggest researching it, she's not so interested. This time we didn't suggest looking it up and she did it on her own.

That's really cool. I love it when stuff like that happens.
