We are just plugging away here and I'm fine with that but I'm wondering where 'everyone' else is at (aka am I 'behind'?). For example, when does the 100th day of school generally fall? About how many days of school are generally done before they break for the winter?

We are on day 60 in our curriculum and I just want an idea as to how close I am with the 'system'. We are planning a 3 week vacation in January and I'm trying to decide where I want to be in our work so I don't feel super behind (aka don't have the freedom we want in the summer) when I return. This is especially since I know we didn't start 'on time' due to a end of summer road trip. I count all those great outings and adventures in my teachers planner- I just really love my curriculum and would love to get through the whole thing in the time allotted (I'm looking forward to next year also). Most likely myself and the kids will want to go through the summer, possibly starting the next year or maybe focusing more on some different electives- I just want to completely have the freedom to make that decision rather than feel the pull of unfinished books.

Lest anyone think I am obsessed with fitting into the 'system' let me put you all at ease. I'm very happy with where my kids are and I know it really doesn't matter where the 'system' is at but I just want to know, yk?

Hope this makes sense- Thanks,
Sarah

I do keep attendance records...FWIW, we started August 27th. Since then, we've taken off about...maybe 6 "random" days and a week for Thanksgiving. We are on day 67 today.
Hope that helps!

ETA: we also take off Sat/Sun, just to be clear :)

You know, I have no idea. Come 3rd grade when I have to start being official I'm sure I'll know down to the minute where we are- PA is strict! But right now all I know is we're on lesson 68 in Horizons math. :)

:P I know where I am but I don't know where 'they' are. I don't have their lesson plans in front of me, their attendance sheets. I looked at the local system website and did some rough counting which puts me about in the right spot but there were sooooo many vacation days that I didn't know if it was accurate or not. I didn't know if that was all the schools put together vacation days (elementary, jr and senior highs) or if it was representative of one school.

I'm thinking I could just call a school teacher friend of mine and see where they are. I did sit down and count forward to see when I would end going on the clip I am and it looks like early/mid May

I remember Cole celebrating his 100th day of school on Feb 3rd. I only remember because it was 2 days before Curran was born and I burned my self hot gluing pennies to his 100 Things poster. I've always used that as a bit of a measure, so we try to hit 100 days by Feb 1. I think today we are on day 64...or 63? But we've taken a lot of days off. :o

We started our homeschool year a little early and we are on day 108, but the school where I work is not that far along. I keep a lesson plan book where I don't really plan ahead, I just write down stuff as we do it and I write what number the school day is ( I do this because some states require 180 days of school and this way I can show that we've done that much without much trouble). For us, this is also week 23.

Sarah, are you in Bethel? 'Cause "they" are waaayyyyyy behind due to the teacher's strike PLUS the boil-water days off.

Public schools, private, home - we all have the same required days in WA. If you've counted forward and hit your 36 weeks mid May, then that's great - we don't get there until June.

What I do with curriculum is divide it into weeks (either by chapters or by pages covered) to see where I need to be, or in your case to see if you're on track for covering the material in the timeframe you want. Some curricula are nicely set up into 36 weeks, but why is it that most are not? So strange. I'm often wondering this at the beginning of the year when I'm dividing up 44 chapters of something. Hello, people, this is curriculum here!! Would it have been so difficult for you to arrange your material into a standard schoolyear?!!? Sorry, that rant pops up at the slightest opportunity :) .

Or maybe this misses the point of your question?
