Are there any beginner websites or books or what? I have a cannon powershot A710IS 7.1 megapixel. I want to get a dslr at some point but honestly, this camera does a lot and I don't really know how to use, so I want to start learning on it. Any suggestions on where to start?

But, it isn't model-specific. For that, you'll either want to find a local photography class (ha, in wv?) or just trial and error and read your manual :)

The powershot (which I didn't realize you had when you were doing ring pics or I'd have helped more :o) has a little flower icon on it, yes? On the dial? That's macro mode :)

It's a good book. You won't be able to do everything it talks about, but you can do a lot. And don't forget your camera manual!! That's where I first started figuring out how to use the manual functions on my canon powershot A85. Also, just experiment. Take a picture on auto. Then flip it to one of the manual settings, and take the picture again. See how it looks. Mess around with the settings, and take it again. See if you can get it to look OK. Pay attention to what you're doing. Do it over and over and over and over ;)

I first wanted to use my manual settings because I disliked how often it would turn to flash inside. I dislike the flash look in pictures that are inside, especially when the light may be low, but not really dark. So I experimented on manual settings until I could get better pictures.

Yeah, I found that flower, but then I was having lighting issues. LOL
