Branwyn, this is one of my major areas of study. I'm curious what aspect you're interested in. Ken Goodman is largely seen as the father of whole language: What's Whole in Whole Language would be a good place to start. Even though it's old, it's a seminal piece. Also, anything by Yetta Goodman, Dorothy Watson, Jerry Harste.

If you want critiques, I can't help you. :-)

hey there mama!

we used phonics for m to learn to read but lyl has shown that she learns and teaches herself with the whole language/sight-reading approach. it kind of amazes me because i was so pushy and demanding with the phonics with m (man i really pushed her, of course it was hard to know then what was me pushing and what was her "giftedness" you live you learn right?). but sitting back and just letting lyl do her own thing, not pressuring her she is totally into the WL.

she told us last night that she was done with all the d1ck and jane books and was now ready to go onto something else. so i was interested in learning more about the approach so i can better help her (everything is so phonics centered these days its kind of hard to find anything that ISNT phonics - from toys, books, etc)
