It's come early this year:

My annual quandary about my math program.

Actually, if I can have this nailed before grade 2, I'll be THRILLED!

Here's the deal: My ds does much better with a "mastery style" curriculum, which approaches different topics in each chapter and concentrates on those, instead of spiral or incremental which has similar looking lessons each day. This narrows down the competition to Singapore, Modern Curriculum Press, Teaching Textbooks, and Bob Jones.

Of these, I'm using Modern Curriculum Press right now, with Singapore under the bed waiting for the summer (I liked the idea of having both for extra coverage. ) I'm coveting BJU though. I think one big reason I didn't use it was price which in retrospect seems RIDICULOUS. The only other qualm I have is the reputation of the teacher's manual as confusing. I am thinking I could manage it because I *am* a teacher by trade and have dealt with confusing TMs before.

Any comments, suggestions or feedback? If you've used the program would you recommend I buy the "Teacher Chart Flip Book", "Review Workbook/Answer Key" and Flash Cards sold by BJU?

Of course TT doesn't even offer a second grade program, but the more I hear about their course the more I think I want to stick with a "tried and true" program like BJU which I can use all the way through high school, adding in DVDs if I get in "over my head."
