View Full Version : I would really like to know my kid's grade level
Are there any tests I can just give them?
I know this is debated by some but I just would like to know. Nothing really formal and I don't even plan on telling the kids where they stand. I just want to know.
any idea where I can get a few tests?
We just had a professional evaluation done that included achievement testing (which gave us grade levels by subject) but it wasn't something I'd pay for every year.
Can you just check milestones by subject in one of the "What your X Grader Should Know" books, or on the World Book Encyclopedia site? In the past, that has given me a decent idea of where my kid is in terms of grade level.

The School Box (do y'all have those stores there?) has a whole bunch of different ones/informal (or you can buy them online)
or you can do thurbers.net or the PASS test for standardized tests.

Here is the link to all of the old TAKS (the achievement test given in Texas every year starting in 3rd grade).
They are free at least. :p

KD, I have a checklist of Ohio's grade by grade/subject by subject standards. If you want, I can email you the file. I have been keeping it on hand and checkng off things as the kids can do them. Helps me see they are on track. Just LMK if you want it, ok?

While in school Annabelle took a test called the NWEAs - NWEA (The Northwest Evaluation Association) - Partnering to Help All Kids Learn (http://www.nwea.org/) . By far it's given us the best idea of where she is at. It's on a computer so it was easy to do, and the test has no limit. It starts off with the grade level your child should be in by age. On the first test if the child does really well it will go up a few months or maybe a whole grade. It'll keep doing that until the child misses enough answers for the computer to think the kid has maxed out. If they don't do well at the grade they are suppose to be in, then the computer goes back a grade.
Basically, the tests meassure where your child/ren is/are actually at. I've found it to give me a much better idea of how to educate Annabelle.

Oh, and have you looked at Kidtest.com(SM) :: Success. Make it happen with Kidtest.com. (http://www.kidtest.com?) I think that's it. You can do some testing there.
