Anyone have any insight on globe buying? The search results I get have so many snow globes that's it's frustrating me!
I'm trying to find something inexpensive but that will be good for showing ds where things are when we read about a country. The interactive ones look neat, but they are almost $100.

I bought an old one from a church rummage sale. May not be accurate, but it's fun to use. I think that Walmart and K-Mart sell basic ones at back to school time. You could probably get one from an office supply store.

We have two inflatable globes and use those in combination with Google Earth. I know thats not specifically what you asked but its cheap and what we prefer. One globe has all the latitude/longitude lines and country borders and each country is colored in various colors, the other is satalite imaging- so one is good for finding a countries location and the other is good for seeing what it looks like from space. Google Earth is FANTASTIC for helping your child really grasp the locations and how we fit in the world. When my kids write letters we often will googleEarth our address and zoom right down close so we can see Daddy's truck in the driveway, then zoom out (noting the identifiable items; puget sound, mt Rainier...) and zoom into the address they are writing (like G'ma in SoCal and zoom in to see her roof and car that they recognize). This method has really helped them grasp the shape and movement of the earth, and how small we are on it.

I got mine at Costco for $15 a couple of years ago. They sometimes have nice basic ones like mine at holiday time.

I saw one at the Goodwill last year, and was tempted to buy it to show the kids what the USSR was. :p It was very outdated.

 Well, it's certainly good when you're teaching modern history, huh? And a lot of stuff is still the same. Canada, France, and Brazil, for instance. :D
