As you get to know Amitymama, you'll realize that a LOT of the traffic takes place on the Market forum. Feel free to post any question there--it will probably get answers. However, I am not sure that there are any nomadic families on here. If they are, they don't post much about it!
(another hint is that a lot of us view posts by the "New posts" button at the top. I don't check individual forums, with the exception of one, I just view new posts and see what's interesting to me. :D)

Ok I am curious - when you say you are a nomadic family - what does that mean for your family?
I would say I was raised that way - we lived here and there for a few months at a time, travelled extensively, camped for months on end, lived on a sailboat. My mother is Canadian and my stepfather German, yet we lived in Florida for much of the time for awhile - so we had to go here and there to continue to have permanent residency in their native countries, etc.

LOL! You're too funny Rebecca :D
Jeni- we are pretty much the way you described... we live here or there for as long as we can possibly stake it out... you see, my husband is a jeweler and with the economy the way it is, people just run out of money to spend on themselves just way too quickly... so we move on and sell more jewelry. We also have a tendency to follow tours (widespread panic, the dead, ratdog) and vend the lots to make our way in life. It's the only way we know of.
I guess I am one of a kind, being nomadic and having a wifi connection because I have never yet found another family like us online! If you know of one, let me know! LOL

Ah, I used to love going on the road with the Dead.
Have you heard of the barefoot family? If you google, you'll find them. A family that blogs about their life in a RV.
Once we had kids, we settled down a bit, only hitting a few music festivals in the summer. There's a lot of stuff out there on the lots that I'm not into my kids seeing just yet.

You will find that there are a lot of mamas here that really would like to be more nomadic, but have chosen to live stationary, thus try to find as much balance as they can in the situation in which they have chosen to be.
This tie between wanderlust and homesteading. If you will.
My story is a bit different but in involves a strong desire to travel as much as my dh's passion to not change jobs even one more time before he retires will allow.
Again, welcome.

I used to tour but since I had kids, I've pretty much ended my travelling. I took my oldest to a few shows and festivals up until he was 2 though. We just took him to see Ratdog last week and he had a blast!

I use to be very nomadic, and thought I would want that lifestyle even after having children. I must admit though that having kids has made me want to do the homesteading route instead. With alot of travel mixed in. When we build I will put an apt over my garage so I can get someone to take care of the farm while we are away!!
Hubby and I still dream of living for at least a year in an rv with the kids. My husband is about to graduate college with a degree in aviation and we have been discussing jobs. Last night we actually we talking about working at a dude ranch, flying guests in during the summer and then living in another country working with orphans during the winter. We'll see what God has instore for us.
Welcome Nomadic family, we will love to hear your story!!

Heyla Meeshi! Our girls went horseback riding together last session :monkeydan
Anyway.... Right now, because I'm a single mama + MORE than full time college student (21 credits/semester to stay on track for graduation to keep my schoalrship which means I'm unemployed), we're relatively nomadic: we stay with various friends/family depending on the situation. We walk & ride the bus. My daughter is almost 6, though.
I'm also a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician :hiya: I wish RVs were a safe option for travel, but they're not. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for all kids even in vehicles where there are approved locations to install carseats & without all the projectiles found in RVs :shake: Unoccupied trailer types are fine: this way the family can be properly buckled into the towing vehicle.

we were hitchiking when we got pregnant, but are settled temporarily, since
i wanted a place to have my baby.
when the lease runs out in may we'll be traveling too. we need to get a better vehicle though because i'm pretty sure the ol' volvo that papa bear has is going to crap it's pants for good
won't tour w/ bands though, we're more into working at farms. we want to homestead eventually but we want to gather a few more skills and people until then.
what kind of vehicle do you travel in?
