I did this a long time ago with my children. My local Michael's used to sell sheets of beeswax that you could roll into candles. (They don't sell them anymore.) It was like 5 sheets of wax and enough wick to make 5 candles of a single color for under $5.
I want Christmas colors like dark green, red, cranberry, and cream for example.
I think it was a Waldorf craft type thing. (Sorry for the murky details!)
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Debra, homeschooling mom of 4 ages 11 this month, 9 3/4, 8 next month, and 4 (Apraxia, Dysarthria, HFA, OCD)

I buy mine from Miller's Honey (http://www.millershoney.com/waxshow.htm), which is fairly local to me but they do sell online. When I looked around it was the best price I could find, even online.
Each sheet of wax makes 2 eight inch candles and a small votive. 3 sheets of wax, plus 2 yards of wick would come to $5.10 + shipping. It would make the most sense to order more than just 3 sheets, or to have someone go in on an order for you. The do package it well if you have it shipped (vs. store pick up).
I haven't decided if we're making candles this year. Or rather, we'll make candles with what we have leftover for this year ~ I'm not sure I'll take the boys over to buy specific colors of wax.

Our local health food store carries beeswax maybe yours would as well. Alternatively if you could find a local bee farmer maybe you could score some from him.

The beeswax sheets we used last year were from a HearthSong craft kit. It came with 12 sheets in various colors, but they weren't all christmas colors. It also came with wicks and written directions.
