I searched here:

But couldn't find an acorn, just a mushroom/toadstool.

I would try searching the craft-alongs over at etsy. They have tons of different things, there's no telling what you'll find. Or look on the D-i-Y website. My guess would be that most of the things here were old and the image links wouldn't work anymore.

Are you talking about these? I posted about them maybe 2 years ago? I give them as Christmas gifts. Super easy to make and you decide on size. I like making all different sizes. The first pic is mine. The acorns are smaller than they look. The antique bowl is only about 5" across. The other 2 are pics that I borrowed that show different looks and sizes. Hope this is what you were wanting.

Oh Good. And thank you. I love making them. The cap of the acorn is just a round piece of fabric that you loosely gather around the top of the nut. Afterwards you can grubby them up by painting (I use a foam brush) with a strong mix of instant coffee. Then rub them with a mixture of spices (cinnamon, nutmug, pumkin pie spice etc etc) and then place on cookie sheet in low set oven until dry. Watch closely so they don't scotch/burn. I also ad scented filling to the center of my acorns. Just some scented oil mixed with crush corn cob (can't remember now what it's called. Sold in craft stores.) I put in the polyfill then some of the crushed cob.. then polyfill on top before stitching on my cap.

I used clearance cotton at walmart. I've seen them done in cotton, felt, velvet etc. This is a craft that you can have fun experimenting with .. since it's inexpensive, quick, and simple. Your grubby-ing (see. that's my new word of the day lol) effect is going to be different depending on your fabric too.. which makes it even more fun imo.

Post pics when you get them made! :)
